I saw something today in Automotive News suggesting that tariffs on Feb 1 will take about a week to shut down auto production in North America.

Mexico-USA-Canada is completely integrated as a production loop, so it would take what… 2 years plus?…to build all North American cars in the USA.

I think most people outside the Butters Retard Club here on Lit ignore a lot of Trump’s posturing… but what do you think will happen?

I think the US auto industry will continue to produce shitty overpriced cars regardless of any tariffs or import duties/fees.

I’m curious to know what you think is a shitty overpriced car.

As much as it hurts I have to agree with that. But America produces the cars its market demands, 9-speed slushmatic gas-guzzler soccer mom wagons the size of a small nation.

Yes, but which cars are he complaining about? Is he complaining about gas guzzlers? Is he a trumper concerned on gas prices? Maybe he wishes for better wages for autoworkers that would show quality workmanship. Is this fucker concerned about pollution is where I was going to step on his cock with my feet with.

I think you guys are missing the play.

You cant build an american car without the other nafta countries.

You’re about 2 years out.

“North America’s auto industry will almost immediately grind to a halt if U.S. President Donald Trump implements steep tariffs on all goods from Canada and Mexico, Linamar Corp. Chairperson Linda Hasenfratz warns.”

First of all it's not about the money, Trump wants something else and the tariff's are his opening power play.

And his timing isn't all that bad. There is a ton of excess inventory out there so many lines are already down. And even if the inventory issue didn't exist the plants would be closing anyway to retool for the 2026 models.

So it is an issue, but not time to hit the panic button.

Trump's hot button issue is the immigration and drug thing and he wants both Canada and Mexico to get serious about cracking down. Is that all he wants? Is this going to accelerate Soy Boy's exit?

Canadian Liberals are dancing a jig!

The bigger the “ trump emergency” the more likely the Election will be delayed.

They’re already talking about giving away a bunch of Money again. :)

Mo free money!

OK, they don't like Trump so they're going to fuck over their own citizens? Sounds like a rational response to me.

I don't see it working this time around.

Oh it probably won’t… but his dad resigned in similar circumstances and came back…

It’s actually quite a common move in Westminster style Parliaments and Houses of Assembly

Pierre Trudeau

Churchill

Joseph R Smallwood

Bill Davis

John Crosby

those are just a few that spring to mind

And look at Bibi! He’s been dodging getting kicked out with his own lucky War for 2 years! :)

I expect the auto industry (and oil) will be exempt from tariffs. The tariffs are just for show, so Donnie can pretend he’s a tough guy.

There are no border issues for Canada to fix, but Donnie will pretend he forced them to make bigly changes. Huuuuuuge changes. Donnie is only lashing out at Canada because Melania had an affair with Trudeau. 😄

I understand but I don't see Soy Boy making a come back anytime soon. But stranger things have happened.

The “Crisis” could force Parliament back early, they delay the non confidence vote with a bunch of progressive stuff that buys off Jagmeet and lines the pockets of older voters, then they reschedule the Leadership and before you know it, the crisis ends and Trudeau doesnt look so bad anymore.

Et voila!

I think that’s the rabbit in the hat hail mary plan.

March is coming sooner rather than later. How long can they put off the elections? Until Oct.?

Canada doesn’t have a set election date like the US, but this Parliament has to have an election on or before october 20/25

US politics would be way more fun if a vote in the House could force a Pres Election… or if a Pres could call snap elections with …no term limits!

Well, we aren't Parliamentary.

Back to the auto industry. Looking at the scrap iron the US makers are turning out and the prices they're asking one has to wonder if they deserve to survive? The position they find themselves in started under Obama and has been exasperated by Biden. They allowed themselves to be bribed into building shit no one wants to buy.

A nurse i know bought a new jeep wrangler last year for $108,000.

A GMC Denali 1500 is over $100k.

My Hyundai Sante Fe was made in the USA with 85% American parts. If Hyundai, Honda, Toyota, Nissan, BMW, and several others can make cars in America, why can't Ford, GM, and Chrysler?
