Hair wax is much like gel, you basically just rub where you want. USe less then normal gel of course. Just spend time finding a style you like, or simply, don't give a fuck about it. Honestly, its just hair.

Seriously when I see a guy I look at his face, then his body, then his hair, if he is ugly with a great body and hair, he gets lucky, if he is gorgeous with great hair and a not so good body, he gets lucky, not often you see a gorgeous guy with a great body and crappy hair so I can't say if he would get lucky or not, hmmm, not often my butt, NEVER see that.
Anyway my advice is to skip the gels and wax and whatever else, if you want that messy style, go to a salon and have your hair done and get advice from them, or you can always get it cut shorter and spikey topped, then you want to use gel or not, spikey tops work well for this messy crap.
If your looking for more than a one nighter and maybe alot of diseases, well then pick a style of hair that ISN'T the in-thing and makes you look good, if you want help with that, go to a salon and ask them to make you look handsome and stay with that.
The women who want a guy with the INlook are young and always end up going elsewhere or live in a small town, so unless you live in a small town, pick your own hair and pick up a girlfriend so you get lucky ALOT more often.

I'm not sure what emap was talking about and how it relates to your question, but I think it could be a good idea, if you're truly clueless, to go to a salon (even if it is Cost Cutters!). Have a cute girl play with your hair and give you some pointers. Or I'm sure a female friend would be happy to help ya out.
