What to do next after throwing the kitchen sink at a story?

So I put a lot into Coleoidphilia, the sex bits, the non-sex bits. It worked out pretty well I think. But now I’m a bit 🤷 about what on Earth to do next. I have 11 draft stories, mostly shorter or episodic, I’ve even posted the beginning of a new story. But I am a bit, “where do I go from here?”

Is this common?

After a tentacle story, you either go fishing or stay the hell away from the water. Beer is optional and so are bikinis.
I have a nice new shocking pink bikini - bought it to help forget winter and to hope for warmer days.

Contests have nothing to do with how good you are. They are aimed at making you write to a theme and to get your name out there for a longer period of time and in different places. Having a good story does help to promote your name and impress the readers.

Get your feet wet but remember what is in the water.

Hadn’t thought of it that way. Thanks.

I've probably got at least three ideas I could give you lol. No idea when I'll get around to them.

I think it would do me good (like Coleoidphilia) if I approached an area I wouldn’t normally write about. I felt tentacle porn was a learning experience.

If that's the case, do something you don't just have no interest in, but an aversion to. Cuckolding is not and will never be my thing, but I wrote Kayfabe (a humorous, sympathetic story about a cuckold and bull bromance), and it's one of my favorite things I've written. I also understand a helluva lot more about that subculture and what makes it tick, too, so win-win. And! I even got some of the hardcore LW folks to go, "oh, yeah, okay, I get it now. I still hate it, but I get it." Which, you know. Baby steps.

You know what I don't think I've ever seen here?

A Mind Control story where the woman controls the guys mind.

I'm sure those stories might exist, but I've never read one.

Could be a fun twist?

I'm not encouraging anyone to venture into this area, but I keep a children's/young adult story on the side that I work on while awaiting inspiration for more adult-oriented stories. I'm almost done with the first installment, but of course, you'll never see it posted here.

The innocent adolescent humor harkens me back to happier times in life and allows my more deviant side time to recharge. Not everything has to be a stroke story.

TBH the idea of writing about anything but sex terrifies me.

Play a trick on yourself. Think about something you'd love to write about, then promise yourself the characters will bonk eventually. If they do, they do. If they don't, just keep writing until the story is done, and then promise yourself they'll bonk off-page. Bob's your uncle with mind control powers and a panty fetish who's secretly a vampire-alien-lizardperson... but none of that is important right now. He needs to file those TPS reports so he doesn't have to go the office on Saturday. Then he can bonk. First, though, let's hear more about those TPS reports...

In all seriousness, I think that giving yourself open-ended permission for characters to bonk can be a breath of fresh air even when you're writing non-erotic fiction. I have this whole Shit/Fuck Matrix theory of fiction I've toyed with over the years, and I tend to find that I enjoy fiction best when it's in either the Fuck box or the Shit And Fuck box, even if there's not actually a lot of shitting and/or fucking in the text itself. It's about the "realness" or "lowness" of the characters and the situations. It's about how them living in a world of shitting and/or fucking influences their personalities and even motivations.

You don't seem shy about sharing with the class on these forums. What would you love to write about, separate and apart from sex?

This is frequent for me.

I just wait. The muse always, always, always speaks up. Eventually.

I'll have to look those up.

I'm actually curious to see if a female oriented version of that story would feature anything more than the women hypnotizing the guy to do anything more than clean the house and cook dinner for her 😆

Just trying to combine a couple of ideas that've floated through this thread so far, how about a Mind Control story where the woman controls the guys mind so he fixes the kitchen sink, then washes the dishes, while she drinks some beer while getting ready to go fishing in her brand new shocking pink bikini? Or maybe she puts the bikini away for the time being and attends Nude Day - way more fun!

I write mostly about my experiences (not uncommon I realize) either directly or in disguise. I was saying to someone else today that sex was the center of my world for a long time and I guess that’s why I write about it.

I do find as I write more. I’m dealing with other stuff around the edges, most obviously in Fragile, which is about coping with bereavement (with one gratuitous blow job thrown in). I guess I just need to expand my margins enough to write more in them 😊.

Might try your trick. Thanks 🙏
