I have a hard time with spelling among other things and to say the least I am rather frusterated with this aspect of writing. It gets to the point that I even forget how to spell the simple words due to thinking about other creative ways to word it. The question is how do I deal with this problem?

spellchecker

A spell checker is really uselful for spellings. I swear by MS Word. I also use an online dictionary sometimes. Word has a built-in thesaurus so the alternate wirds are just a click away. Try www.dictionary.com and keep it open in another window while you write.

Hey, while certainly spelling can be an obstacle when reading, don't make it one while writing. Use a good spell checker AFTER you've written if it's constantly interrupting you with those harsh red underlines in the writing process.
It may be that you write first...spelling be damned...then check with a spell checker...THEN use a proof reader....get a friend who loves your stories or who is just willing to help, and let them have a look. Perhaps you're worrying too much about the spelling is a way of procrastination with writing...we all have our little quirks. Don't let it stop you.

Don't worry about it while you're writing. It's just going to make you miserable and you're constantly going to second guess yourself and your writing is going to suffer.

Once you're done writing, run the spell checker over it.

Once you've done that run your grammar checker over it to find spelling mistakes. Seriously.

Eye rapped my arms around her waste. Your spell checker will be fully satisfied with that sentence. You grammar checker will freak out.

don't have...

I don't have one of those spell checking programs I know I should go out and buy one but where to look...

Hi Whiteboy,

Most of the word processor programs nowadays comes with a spell checker. If you wrote on a word processor program, then there must be a spell checker. There are options in the program where you can turn on and off the checker functions.

What I usually do is keep a word processor window open and write on that before cutting and pasting to post.

Geez whiteboy, any word processor program nowadays has spell check!

Yeah, but MSWord's grammar checker is no damn good. It accuses me of committing sentence fragments when I know perfectly well I've done no such thing. I'm an English major and I've been writing for years. I haven't been published very many places but I've earned my bit and sup making sure that various execs' correspondence went out booboo-free for more years than these bozos who coded Grammar check have been on the planet.

Whiteboy,

If your PC has such lousy word processing progs if you are quick - it is getting withdrawn midnight tomorrow the 29th May get Star Office 5.2 as a free download. (I do not know what time zone they are using)

The link is -

http://wwws.sun.com/software/star/staroffice/6.0/

Or you will be able to buy the new Star Office 6.0 which is fully compatible with MS Office - but for regular use 5.2 is good and free.
