I noted that very critical issues were ignored studiously, and the subsequent posts by the community bear out that thought.

You can’t commit to substantive discussion while at the same time refusing to interact with the aforenamed crises and issues. You cannot preclude such matters systemically from discourse and host a national election which has more import than a popularity contest.

Were there real leadership, these frankly childish devices would not be used. That they are demonstrates a shocking measure of political illiteracy and a non-serious attitude toward the most consequential crises of our time.

NO serious, nationally offered candidate is worthy of support on the grounds of crises named. In the midst of a political earthquake, political leadership looks like this.

He said that Trump failed to defeat “our democracy.” As Biden had it, it was … not today, not tomorrow, and not ever.

Yet here we now are — at a place we were told that we would never be. How and WHY is was this permitted to happen again?

Parties have complete control over their partizan program and agenda. They make every decision in all aspects of party life. Research and strategy, data management, policy formulation, resource management, compliance and regulation, law, outreach, political alliances, education, agitation and propaganda, damage control, membership management, volunteer management, event planning, candidate handling, fundraising, logistics, communications — there is not one operation that a party does not control.

This is only proper. These are internal party matters. So long as it operates within the bounds of its own constitution and any operational procedures derived therefrom, that party functions entirely within its rights.

But to the extent that democracy applies in society, it is the citizens’ right to pose any questions they may have about any aspect of party life. And the question to be asked and frankly faced is: against the backdrop of January 6 events, what did democrats do post Biden’s inauguration to ensure that US democracy would ‘not ever’ face this crisis?

This can be fleshed out by asking:

“What research was done into the origins, basis, social class nature and development of the threat posed by this distinctively US form of fascistic reaction? What questions were formulated? What committees were formed and commissioned to do such work? What inquiries did they make? To whom did they report their findings? What analytical and strategic work was done with this data? What permanent education campaign was established to counter this existential threat to US democracy? How was this work done? What was published and publicized? What did the party do to reverse fascism’s rise?”

From what I can see, not of these was pursued. With complete control over every aspect of organizational life, the regime refused resolutely to implement even one, solitary initiative to staunch fascism’s rise.

Not in nearly four years.

Fascism cannot be opposed through the Democratic Party because democrats and their party refuse to oppose fascism. Had even one or two points been addressed, that [if woefully inadequate] might allow some excuse for this disastrous failure. But the complete absence of any and all measures even to uncover the most basic aspects of fascism simply cannot be an oversight.

Fascism can be opposed ONLY by a total break from the whole US political spectrum. The struggle against fascism must be taken from democrats to ensure that it happens.

Democrats refused to create a program to oppose fascism. So the working class will.

Because parties run on their program.

The issue with all of these asshats is that the only thing they promote is Us vs Them. It's two sides of the same coin. They all get something out of it - rich, at the expense of the taxpayers, the middle class and the workers. The parties keep serving up Kool-Aid, red or blue, like it is the elixir of the gods and all the while, Society becomes more disjointed and more divided. Somebody/Something is getting all of this to occur, and it isn't the fools they stand up in front of the microphones to talk down to us in their "I am speaking" voices.

There is no good reason at all to deport the immigrants. There is no way in which the country would be better off without them. The electoral system is not broken. There are no wars going on that the U.S. has the power to stop. There is nothing the federal government does that we would be better off without, and nothing that the states or the private sector could do better. And there is no conceivable future in which conservative economic policies -- neoliberal supply-side policies -- will raise the standard of living for everyone, since they never in the past have done anything but make the rich richer.
