Just got a call from a friend informing me that everything I had on Lit has disappeared. Everything. I know I didn't remove it, and it's completely gone. What happened??

Bummer, but only Laurel can tell you what happened, and she doesn't seem to read the forum much. You need to PM her direct (message system at top right of this page).

I did, just wondering if this was a site glitch that I had missed.

No glitch that I'm aware of. I think that if something like this had happened to even a miniscule number of other people, we'd have heard about it somewhere on the forum.

Joy. That means someone did this deliberately. I can only think of one person who might have possibly had a way to access my account... and that's disappointing as hell.

Already done. Just very sad. Some of that writing had been here for years, and some of it I can't replace. Double checked my other account as well, looks like that one was safe.

Really sorry. That's so horrible.

I had a story reviewed on my blog which someone lost the complete version of. I put a notice about it up on my blog. One of my other friends had saved it so we managed to get it back. Might be worth putting notices up to ask if anyone copied your stories and can give them back to you?

:rose:

It's been a while since you've checked Lit, I assume. It normally takes at least a few days, if someone has gone into your account to send delete requests on all your stories, for that to go through.

If anything like this happened to me, I'd be, eh . . . furious. In a Vesuvius sort of way.

I usta be King of the Paper Shredder. Fuck with me and I'd make confetti of all your reports and legal documents. Then I moved on to corrupting floppies.

If you have sufficient details (such as long chunks of the text) it might be worth checking to see if it is "listed" elsewhere on the 'net.

What the fuck indeed. That's some scum-baggy thing to do to someone.

I'll live, but it's saddening to know that someone would do that. There's only one person who could have possibly been able to get into my account, and Laurel just confirmed that the deletion requests came from my account in the proper way. Since I know I didn't do it, my only conclusion is that someone got drunk and spiteful and destroyed something I valued in a fit of temper.

Childish, and frustrating.

I guess this means I had better start writing new stuff.

Working on it. :D Also, thank gods for story stealing bastards. I found most of Impossible Gifts, Ties That Bind, How To Marry A Rockstar, and Caprice. A couple of orphan pieces (including one I thought was truly gone forever), and snippets of other long projects. Enough to make a fresh start with. The poetry is gone, as are a few of the really out-there pieces that weren't popular with readers.

Always a light at the end of the tunnel. :D

I guess you won't be talking to that person ever again...I wouldn't.

Sorry to hear this. Hope you can get most of the stories back up.

I've needed to edit and rewrite for a while now- I'm going to take a couple of weeks to do so, and then do one of three things- post them back to Lit or publish them through Smashwords- or send them off to an actual brick and mortar publisher and pray, lol.

Probably the stuff I'm still on the fence about will go back to Lit and see what people think of the new and improved versions.

In my experience, it's usually an on-coming train.

Holy Crap, LILY!!!! Thank you!!!! Saving all these to hard drive right now!

Glad to be of help.

Only wish the web archive had saved everything, especially second pages. :rose: Seems the moral of this story is to only write one page stories...

Every story I write I email to my wife when i submit them. If anything were to happen to the ones here on Lit, it would be simple to re-create.

I know, I know, this does nothing to help the OP in the current situation, but maybe that would be an idea for backups going forward.
