We are about an hour into the posting of stories in the much maligned, "LOVING WIVES" category for May 14, 2022. There were 18 stories posted. WITH A COLLECTIVE AVERAGE SCORE OF 0.88!!

That is not an anomoly, that is a rash of ONE star scores on sub par trash, tripe and crap! By my reconing NONE of these stories (if voting was allowed at all) never rose above 3.38. WHAT HORSESHIT!

To those offended (actually OFFENDING) authors: I commend you for digging into your soul and putting thought to screen, but for heaven's sake and your own well being - DON'T QUIT YOUR DAY JOB!

Yes, yes it IS easy being the critic. But for as long as there have been authors, playwrights and screen writers, there have been critics. Take today's load of sewage and tripe and learn from it. Keeps your own score if you have the gumption to write several stories, keep those scores in mind when you come to the end of your muse and think -- "maybe I SHOULD stick with fixing diswashers." The men and women of the cadre of Maytag repairmen is wholly underrated.

I'm not saying that I raise the bar to it's highest levels but I think most of us authors who have been around stay away from that category specifically because it draws the Trolls. I certainly have started stories that would fit there, had ideas for them, and tossed them away because even though I'm not as bothered by that stuff as I used to be, it still bothers me a little. You can't drive the Buffalo off the cliff year after year, then complain why the hunting is so poor nowadays. Angry "DON'T QUIT YOUR DAY JOB!" critics is why there is supposedly very little "quality" there. Because "DON'T QUIT YOUR DAY JOB!" is not Constructive Criticism. Who the fuck would quit their day job to write stories for a website that pays you exactly zero dollars a story? They could write a fucking masterpiece and best they'd get was ZERO DOLLARS!

In the Loving Wives category I wouldn't read the new ones. I would wait two or three days and anything that breaks above a 2.5 or so I would try that. Because a certain portion of the population here are waiting for New Loving Wives stories and bomb them with a 1 even without reading them. If something gets that high it's probably not an entirely bad story.

Yes, a lot of the stories here are "HORSESHIT" in your opinion and mine. But the beautiful thing is that it was free to click, free to read that first paragraph and realize it's not even comprehensible, and free to move onto the next one.

Most stories posted every day to the LW category don't rise above 2 on the first or even second day, probably due to people like you 1-bombing them quickly, starting early in the morning.

I don't see anything in your critic's rant here (or in most comments on those LW stories) which might indicate what you believe SHOULD be posted in that category. The most I can gather from the comments in LW is they believe the only stories which should be there are the "Burn the Bitch" types, and NOT the category defined "Married extra-marital fun, sharing, and more". Those stories which meet that category definition are the ones they 1-bomb!

Not possible. Lowest possible score is 1.0 so the average can't be lower than that. Unless one treats "not rated" as a zero score, which would be a mistake.

In any event, the scores for the 18 LW stories posted on 5/14 now range from 2.15 to 4.37, with an average of 3.10. So it takes some time for the scores to settle out. Every category has its own "curve," with the LW curve tending to be shifted toward lower scores than most categories. One consequence is that LW utilizes the full scoring range more fully than other categories: in LW, most stories cluster around 3, and only a few manage to exceed 4.5, whereas is some categories a sizable fraction of the stories tend to have scores above 4.5. A story's score depends depends not only on it's quality, but also on the proclivities of the readership of the category in which it is in. In order to understand what a score means, you have to have some familiarity with the category.

Reading Loving Wives comments against either my stories or others in the category can be very amusing. Some comments are just downright bizarre. For example one of my stories in this category sparked off rants about Donald Trump. That would be understandable if it was a political story and opinions about Trump whether positive or negative were expressed in it, but the story takes place a long way from the USA in Adelaide South Australia and Donald Trump is completely irrelevant to it and not even mentioned in passing. About the only possible link to Trump was that it was set in 2018 when he was US President, but that would be like me setting a story on the Ivory Coast in Africa in the 1980s and somebody getting angry because Margaret Thatcher was UK Prime Minister at the time and he hated Thatcher, even though she was not mentioned and not relevant to the story.

LW stories that receive shit ratings at first always climb but rarely receive more than an average 4 until sometimes months to years later. The only exception is if the author is very well known. Their popularity tends to grant additional attention and higher initial rating. Not always but sometimes.

The only stories in LW that do well out of the gate and stay there are either from the popular writers or stories that have very particular theme (cheating wife, husband leaves, gers revenge and has a happy ending). Sometimes there are deviations to that, the odd faithful wife story but in general its the more romantic themed stories that do well. The kink stories will simply never do well out of the gate if posted to LW.

I've been debating a return to LW, a category I haven't touched since around 2015 because why encourage these turds?

So... I see my mistake on "We See You... Chap. 04". Someone suggested I could put the story under LW. Not knowing the toxicity of that particular subject, I did so. Makes a little more sense why it was one-bombed so viciously within twenty-four hours.

It has a toxic community that are very willing to tell authors how awful they are for posting. They love to 1 bomb stories as well.

Unless the story is a BTB (Burn the Bitch) type of story. Those seem to do well there.

As a frequent author in LW, it sure would be nice if people who don't like the subject matter would read something they do like rather than waist their time "one bombing". Not sure how other authors feel about it but I write what I like for people who like the same and lower scores arent going to change that. Just seems petty to me. If you want 4 stars or more then write the most misogynistic burn the bitch story you can think of and post to loving wives. It won't matter if it's well written or believable. You will get the golden ticket and a bunch of virtual blow jobs by Incel assholes.

My point is you will never satisfy everyone or even most people unless you feed a large group what they want. Whining about it is pointless. People will always spend more time and pay more attention to expressing negative reviews than positive ones. It's human nature

I'd rather enjoy sincere comments on my stories, good or bad ones. I also take into account the comments which are the moral critics of the reader, even if that reader is reading the wrong category.

But the insults? Funny scoring? Most of my stories have only 1 or 5 as scores.
