It's illegal to expect payment for what is bought?

I think she's referring to the illegality of changing the terms of the contract before completion. If the contract is based on one set of payment terms, and one party tries to change it, there's a legal issue there.

Actually, car dealers can keep the deposit for "mileage use" It's perfectly legal.

paying the balance in cash??

I don't think we have the same understanding of paying in cash. Paying in cash means:"Here is the money, give me the car."

"In a week or so I give you the money" is not paying at all, it is "promising".

And...from the 24th to the 31st is a week in my calendar.

In this context, paying in cash here refers to paying in full on collection of the goods, as opposed to financing via the dealer or a bank.

The dealer had accepted the deposit as down payment and the promise of payment in full of the outstanding balance in a week's time when the car would actually be collected. It was the change of mind on the part of the dealer that was the issue - if he wasn't happy to wait, he shouldn't have taken the deposit. His choice, but once it's made, he has to stick to it, or return the deposit.

And this happened on 27th, not the 24th, so a week's time is later than 31st, isn't it?

Ok, just to clear some stuff up here before we totally derail the thread

Wednesday afternoon (27th) I went to the car dealership. I have some money coming in from an inheritance but it was in an account that usually requires 7 day notice before it can be withdrawn.

I went to the dealer, saw the car I wanted, got a deal I was happy with but stated, multiple times, that I would need a week to get the cash. All was agreed. I went away to shift money about so i could pay the deposit, made the payment and then as I was talking to the guy he dropped the "need the balance on Monday."

Now, I can't even collect the car until the middle of next week (their deadline) and actually stated I didn't want to collect it until the 12th.

So, now they are asking for full payment before they can make delivery of it rather than the tradition in any other major sale of a deposit paid and the balance on exchange.

Now, as it stands, the bank has got their ducks in a line faster than expected and I will have the money on Monday (yay) but, the point remains that they tried to fuck me about on the deal after the deposit was paid.

Alas, no.

That was my error. I had to leave the dealer to drive long distance before I could confirm I could a) get the cash and b) my wife was ok with me spending the cash without her having sight of the car.

When I got confirmation I did the rest over the phone.

Lesson learned.

I don't wanna look like a raccoon because my blood pressure hates me. Or limp this weekend. Or feel like fainting. I'm in a wedding and haz to do a protection spell at a friend's house. *sighs*

Good thing it worked out with the bank.
Could have been an expensive lesson otherwise.

I feel pretty silly. I found a crochet pattern that seemed easy enough. I purchased some supplies, learned a new stitch and worked for a while. As I was working I realized the pattern didn't explain which way the pattern was being worked. I looked at the diagram and thought I understood it. I proceeded and realized that the pattern just isn't working.

I think I chose a pattern more advanced than my skill. This is disappointing :(

Also, why do people make crocheted items in some of the most awful colors? All the time I think I pass up making something because the color they chose makes the whole thing just look cheap and silly. U_U;;

Ok... I think I feel better now.

What kind of fish market closes at peak for-dinner shopping hours?! Luckily I'm too sick to care much, but now I'm going to have to cook tomorrow night and I still don't feel well ANYWAY...

Oh well...if I'm that sick I might just cajole myself out of my emergency shift...then I have plenty of time to cook?

My aged mother turned off her oxgygen and slept without it all night. I can understand it-- the machine is noisy-- but. Anoxia means everyone around her will have a rough day today.

Paragraphs are important, zomg, so important. It keeps things from just turning into one huge run-on sentence from hell. I've skipped over entire lengthy, probably heart-felt posts today because I couldn't look at them without my eyes crossing.

Also, for some reason my dietary options today are limited to apples and nutella. Everything else causes nausea and flat out doesn't taste "right." Even if its something I made that I know I like.

My doctor didn't realize that nausea can go way past the first trimester until I offered to throw up on her to prove it. I'm blunt that way.

I feel for both of you, hope it didn't turn out too bad.:rose:

LOL, IME you have to be blunt with doctors who think they have all the answers and on't want to accept sometimes that things are just not how the text book or lecturer in university said it would be. Hope your feeling a little better an things improve soon for your pregnancy.:rose:

I ended up in the hospital, when I was pregnant, because I had 24 hour morning sickness. If you don't drink until and hour after you eat, it will increase your chances of keeping food down. Good luck.

Twenty four hours is a pretty long morning. ;)

I concur on the drinking only well after eating advice. Also, not lying down until at least two hours after eating. As nausea is a constant threat for me these days, I have had to give up some long-time habits, including drinking a soft drink or water with my meals and having a late-night dessert. All in the name of not puking on my wife, a goal with which she is quite sympathetic.

I had the same constant sickness with my second - I was told to keep hydrated by taking sips of fluid every fifteen minutes rather than trying to drink a glass at a time.

Rampant denial and inconsistency.
Not going so well, huh.
Fucking human nature.

My daughter tells me that the employee that her tiny retail store had to fire-- broke in the night before last. She, or more likely her boyfriend, broke in a window, and they will be sweeping glass for a week, she says. More problematically, the keys to the till and strongbox had never gotten changed, and she opened the till, took the strongbox key and left with its contents. The manager is very young.

Spending all of my first day of holiday cleaning my daughter's room. It took us twelve hours. Don't ask me how she manages to get it into such a state because I have absolutely no idea.

My Polish friend got pregnant despite using an IUD. Hearing about the lenghts she has to go to to get an abortion is making me sad and pissed off at the same time.

Episode two - it was son's bedroom today, which in comparison wasn't bad - just the six hours for his. So with that over, I was looking forward to a nice relaxing bath, with the rest of my holiday in front of me - shopping tomorrow for birthday gifts for my daughter's friend, packing and then leaving early on Thursday morning....

So of course, the boiler has packed in - no heat, no hot water. So no relaxing bath, plus a tedious wait in tomorrow for the repairman instead of some fun. Dammit.
