What is this thing about Mormon underwear?

Religion is always....complex.

Tolerance implies differing opinions...although I agree the line between seeing differences and "ridiculing" is a thin one. However...if one tries to be as sensitive as possible...isn't that the best one can do? I mean, if you let a group decide what "tolerance" is...eventually you will have someone who says giving them all your money is the only way not to offend their deity/customs/ancestors/magic beans/etc.

I have known a few mormons and they were the nicest, most moral, hardworking people I have ever known. They...tended to lose religious arguments, but so what? Religion isn't often based on what one can argue. (I guess that's why they don't call it science. erm...my apologies to Scientologists).

I see an interesting issue...some people consider religion to be an "interesting cultural phenomenon based on personal choice" -- much like what food you prefer. Some see it as "mystical information yielding underlying truth about existance where all spiritutality is one". Some see it as "truth beyond the physical universe" (i.e. some is right and some is wrong). Some see it as "an opiate of the masses" and "the biggest evil ever to beset humankind".

No wonder religious threads cause ...erm...intense discussion.
We don't even agree on what it is.

I am not a Mormon, but I really get sick of people like cumallday who dis on a faith because they don't understand it. So what if you don't believe it. Does that make it something to mock? Go forth and deliver your asinine words of ignorance, it just proves to s how stupid you really are.

No, I'm not dissing, as in disrespecting (well, maybe a little). I do respect the person's right to choose. And, have faith, I do understand the choice. What I will dis and mock is the blind and uncritical acceptance of received wisdom. I say fuck that. What if I employ a slippery slope and suggest that if I can't make fun of someone's choice of underwear then I can't make fun of say someone's choice of political ideology? I hope this isn't the case as then the argument would then lead to people no longer having the right to make fun of me and my choices, and if you take a look at the link of my second post here you should, dear lord, have ample fodder to make fun of me - ample. All praise be to Tootie.

Also, I wonder if a mormon is still allowed to practice their faith if they choose to shirk wearing such silly undergarments.

Yes, they are. It's not as restricting a faith as some would like to believe.

Honestly, people, do some research before you make fun of something you know nothing about.

And, cumallday? You certainly have the right to make fun of whomever you choose. We also have the right to view you as a narrow-minded twit when you do, however.

Sarah: yeah, holy panties are good. :D

Well thank God for that...I mean thank Tootie.
