Ok not sure if it has been asked before i tried doing a search but some reason wasn't working correctly.
So i was wondering, and i am sure i will get different opinions on this, but what is the significants of submissives walking or sitting on the left side of a Dominate?

Thanks so much in advance

Most likely though, if the imagery of the sub on the left side does exist, it's probably so that the right handed Dominant can still order drinks.
lol :rose:

I don't mean to sound insulting, but my understanding is that it is comparitive to a dog heeling. Hunters bare arms to the right, so the dog keeps to the left as to not get in the way when Master draws his gun. The same applies to the Gorean mindset-- the slavegirl keeps to the left for not only her own safety, but so as to not have easy access to the weapons of her master.

I'm not sure if this matches the significance in the D/s dynamic you are speaking of, however. I have never heard of a submissive being told to heel.

No you are not being insulting at all.. i asked for opinions and i really meant i wanted everyones opinion... no worries about what you wrote... thanks for replying :)

I dunno, Dawnie's signal to me to get to my knees at her side or to sit at her feet is oddly similar to my hand signal for my dogs to heel or finish. LOL

i was taught...to the left and one step behind shows your obedience to Master. but he coulda been making that up and i would have just saide yess sir with eyes full of stars.

ahhh see that was how it was with my previous except it was on the right side... i am soo confused but then again i get that way easily at times lol
belle ;)

my two cents:

I always thought that the slave was to walk a few paces behind her Master on the left side.
Ps. Kallista, thats very lovely peom you have as your "signature". Did you write it yourself... if so you are very talented !

No, that is very true. By keeping a small distance back, you are demonstrating loyalty to your owner should one sneak up from behind. Your duty in this case would be to act as a protective "shield."

I am left handed and always prefer to have the other person walking on my right no matter the situation.

Having someone walking on my left makes me feel... squished.

I have not heard of this but I am completely ignorant about gorean ways.
I am not aware of ever walking on any particular side of him, unless he moves me to one side or the other.

I think, in general, he walks on the outside, nearest the road, but the more I think about it the more unsure about that I become

As for walking two paces behind him, in public we appear equal, we don't advertise or draw attention to the nature of our relationship; he usually shortens his stride so I can keep up with him. If I were to walk behind him I think in would give people the impression he was an arrogant person with little regard for being with someone who can't keep up.

I do know of a submissive who is in a wheelchair, her Dom pushes her chair even though the chair has a battery pack. I can't imagine him insisting she was two wheel spaces behind him.

Do people actually do this in reality or is it one of those fantasy things that are inpratical when put into a real life context?

Having to walk on his left, is something that i am requred to do. I presumed it was some sorta ritual, it certainly is now.

Interesting, as im blind in my right eye, so i collide with him often, it would be so much easier for me, if it were the right. But my initial request and reasons did not outway his. So, that'd be me, on the left, bumping into her Sir. Very gracious, not!
