What is the most important material object, that you own?

I'm with KM...I've a few things that are important to me materialistically...but when it comes down to it...they don't really matter. I love the rings I've been given by my grandmother and my first love but if they were gone I and my memories would still be here. I've moved too many times in my life to be concerned with material items...they come and go.

My computer.
It is how I make my living. It is how I communicate (most of the time) with family and friends. It is where I keep my writing, my journal, my important information and it is how I research, learn and study.

An 1850's Shakespeare edition. A family friend gave it to me because she had no children and felt I would appreciate it best. She said it had been passed down in her family. She only has cats so it was pointless to leave to them.

Pictures of my children as they grew. Those are so precious to me.

When my sister's house burned down, the thing she regreted losing the most were her pictures!

Well that makes sense...but I have a boxful of pics...alot to carry on the run...

btw...nice AV :D:p

That is a hard question for me to answer. So I will answer it this way:

1) What would I grab if I had to run out of the house in case of fire, I could only make one trip and had to carry it with my hands?

I would grab as many of my most expensive firearms as I could carry on my person and in one hand, my wallet cell phone and checkbook, and I would grab my computer with my other hand. Actually, I might just shove my most recent backup CD in a pocket and grab as many firearms as I could with both hands. It would be a hassle to replace the computer and reinstall the apps, but I could do it a lot easier than I could replace some of my firearms - some of which are almost one of a kind.

2) If I had one hour to packup my car and leave the area due to an incoming nuke, a tidal wave or one of the local volcanoes going off and destroying my home - what would I take?

My computer, my wallet, my cell phone, my checkbook, some clothes, my survival pack, my firearms, my camera, my CDs (all backups and apps), certain photo albums that are irreplaceable, my fireproof safe where I keep important papers and as many of my most expensive books as I could fit in the car.

If I had a pickup I would definitely take one or more of my motorcycles - but those are insured and replaceable so I can leave them behind.

Importance can be guaged a number of different ways. I would say probably the most indespensible objects I own, the very last things I would sell if I had to sell my material possesions to survive, would be my computer, my firearms, one of my bikes, my bed and my washer and dryer. Of those the computer and my firearms would be the last to go.
