I agree, evolution is a process. Genes are not mechanisms, there is nothing mechanical about genes. Genes change over time, stimulated by environment and other external stimulus. Chemistry is not physics but both sciences are involved in the process. Chemical changes in the environment can cause a change in DNA formation to help a creature change to be at equilibrium with it's environment. Physics also plays a role, such as light, radiation, electromagnetic spectrum, gravity, ambient temps or temp changes also have an impact on DNA formation or changes in chromosomes. I guess you could say photosynthesis is a combination of physics and chemistry. Just my humble opinion.
