You might try Jean Paul Sartre in "Being and Nothingness" who sees love as a giving up of free will - a dance of two as one gives and the other takes. Having given up what defines a person as a human being, the donor is no longer of interest to the taker. This causes rejection of the donor who, unless he/she is a masochist, retrieves his/her power of free will - which once again makes them an object of interest to their cruel lover.
