I had a strange experience yesterday and I wonder if I'm weird or something.

I was at the pool yesterday and I saw this woman. She was about 5'8", brownish hair down to the middle of her shoulder blades, skin evenly bronzed all over, black bikini (which revealed some tan lines), tattoo on her lower back, probably in her late 30's.

The odd thing was that I found her attractive even though she was chubby below the waist. Her body was nearly perfect except for the cellulite butt peeking through the bikini bottoms. Her thighs were not huge but noticeably large.

Yet I haven't been able to stop thinking about her.

there are lots of different kinds of attractiveness. i'm sure you didn't mean to express your experience in any sort of demeaning way but someone COULD take it that way.

point is, i wouldn't question your reaction. people are attractive for many different reasons. if that wasn't true, how would rednecks and the french reproduce?

i remember a thread about this not too long ago... i'll repeat what i posted there.

it all has to do with symmetry. attraction is founded in mathematics. we don't realize it but that's what's happening... we find people physically attractive when they're more symmetrical. i'll skip the diagram description i added last time i mentioned this. and you should count yourself lucky for that.

And I don't know what is it with voluptuous women either, but I do find them highly attractive. A model-thin woman catches my eye, but I would too afraid to hold her tight; I feel she might break.

And am I the only one who think that perception of the female body has been difformed? Like a size 10 is now considered full figured? - I watched a show called America's Next Top Model, and there was this gorgeous girl who everybody else thought was 'fat'; they weighed her and I forgot how much she weighed, but it was very normal, and even in the low part of normal and the other girls were saying 'oh I hope she doesn't feel self conscious of her size because she's beautiful' implying 'she's fat but she shouldn't feel bad about it' It irritates me.

I think it has to do with how healthy a person looks, I mean if they are a bit on the chunky side, and have a healthy glow to thier skin that is more attractive. I have seen people who were very thin but looked sick. The same can be said for fat people. I think we are attracted to people who look healthy and have a zest for life.

Math was one of my majors in college. Unfortunately, once I decided I wasn't interested in teaching high-schoolers, I blocked it all out.

I think most of you hit on it--we don't know WHY one person is attracted to another, but in the case of the chubby woman I saw she was well-proportioned. From the waist up she almost looked like a bodybuilder with her broad shoulders and prominently-displayed, even breasts. I think her skin tone offset any turnoff I might have felt due to her mildly chubby thighs.

Whatever it was, she's still making me hot.

In addition to that, anthropologically speaking, a lot of people find larger women attractive because our brains identify them as (a) better for childbirth and nursing (very thin women may not have a normal cycle); and (b) healthier and more able to contribute to society (fat reserves=able to go without in leaner times and more energy to work); and (c) good providers/wealthy. The last two can apply to men as well.

I don't know why this has become such an issue in our society. Beautiful people come in all sorts of shapes, sizes, and forms, and to have a problem with attraction because a woman has fuller thighs or cellulite is ridiculous.

I don't think that anything is wrong with being attracted to a woman who's not physically "perfect".

It sounds to me as if you're BEGINNING to evolve beyond the superficiality of youth.

I think that some of it has to do with how people "project" or "carry" themselves, if that makes any sense. And it's not necessarily a size issue, unless the beholder can't get beyond the person's size.

I know exactly the type of woman you are describing because I am in love with one myself. I would bet almost a million dollars that at one point in her life she was a swimmer, played tennis, possibly some weightlifting or other sport where she had to use her upper body a lot. The girl im with is bigger but by no means fat...she's right at 6' or 6'1" so over all she is big. But man what a glorious site it is to see her bent over in front of me with her nice round ass looking at me.

Historically -- even pre-historically -- it is our modern, "madison avenue" driven standard of beauty that is anomalous. In fact even in today's world, the "Western: standard of rail-thin women as desireable is an anomaly and Americans are the most anomalous of all.

Through most of mankind's existance and in most of the world today, it would be considered odd to NOT find the woman described attractive -- or even for her to be classified as "chubby."

The thing about the malnourished waify looking women that are all the fashion models is that not only do they look fragile and unhealthy, but they look childlike. People tend to put on a few pounds as they age, which is to a very large degree a natural developmental process. Maybe this says that you're starting to be attracted to women more than little girls.

My own girlfriend is very compact and wiry, but I am attracted to a broad range of body shapes. My thin girlfriend is firm and muscular (and self-conscious about her small breasts), and I think she's beautiful. Women with more weight come with the added bonus of boobs, hips and ass, all of which are fun to admire and would be fun to play with if situations were different.

It might be an interesting experiment for you to check out some vintage erotica sometime. Women in erotica in the 30's, for example, have much more "natural" looking bodies than the ones you see plastered everywhere now - and they were HOT.

i agree with this, and with what weird harold said... but i think i should mention that we've made a lot of lifestyle improvements too. we know more about what to eat and how to exercise to sculpt our bodies. i'm not saying that one is better or more natural than the other... i'm only suggesting that there's more to thin (OR heavy) women than being unhealthy or unnatural.

the larger ponit is that, big or small, thin or fat... a woman can be attractive, ugly, healthy or unhealthy... it's all appearance and will EVENTUALLY melt into their personality as we learn more about them and get to know them as individuals.

mm mmm goood. I love voluptuous women. I like to call them "pleasantly plump", not chubby. I think they are attractive, I suppose, because my past freindships with this type of female were very good. All of these plumper freinds of mine seem to be much much nicer than a 60 lb rail figured chick. Although their bodies, as well as their personalities turn me on. I would take a woman with a few extra pounds here and there anyday compared to the skinny as a rail women who's whole goal in life is to be that perfect size whatever that is.I especially love that shape of a woman who has had children and has filled out in all the good areas.The wider hips ,larger breasts,I see guys where I work that go all nuts over women who come in to work and I am like,why?They are so skinny they need a sign that say's front and back.They look anerexic.I am afraid with a skinny woman I may put it in soft and when it gets hard I may hear her ribs crack.

For me its all about health. Size is not important but looking healthy is the first thing ill notice.
