What is it about Accents?

When someone from here talks with me, one of the first things they say is, I thought you'd have some "sexy" accent or something.

Well, sorry to disappoint ya, but I've since lost any accent I had before moving to the U.S. full time 19 years ago.

I don't mind hearing, "I like your voice", blah blah blah... But for some reason I feel like they feel they've been let down because there's no accent there.

I like accents, don't get me wrong, but is expecting someone to have an accent because of their nationality, expecting too much?

I don't usually 'expect' accents, but I like listening to them. I think, from the way I type, people expect me to have a twang or a drawl that just doesn't exist on the phone. In real life, my voice is different, and my accent sneaks in. I've trained myself not to sound like a hick on the phone. *shrug*

I wouldn't have expected you to have an accent though Lo, I know anyone who spends any time in the midwest quickly develops that 'accent from nowhere' that all newscasters seem to have. Even my vet, who's australian, is starting to sound ike a local.

No! I don't have an accent. But, if you PM me your number, you can tell me what you think. I just recorded my voice for my poem Taste Me....it is interesting to say the least.
