What is in my food? My tea?

Watching the Kimchi Chronicles. They ate Samgyetang at a restaurant that has a secret recipe.
( Must have tons of chicken bones to make the thickened base of the broth.)

Now, they are cooking some Samgyetang, at home.
Almost enough temptation to make me think about eating animals, again.

"....a slab of chicken livers, emulsified with what I imagine is sweet butter, that resembles the fattened duck liver more closely
than almost anything else in town, especially when you spread it on a slice of warm, house-baked bread."

In that case, quit tormenting the geese. Eat the whole goose, save the liver (makes a mental curtsey towards our revered French Chef)
and have it with butter! Churn it, yourself. And serve it with all the fixings it deserves. Do not skimp. Julia was not afraid of butter, or salt.

Chipolte pepper, smoked, Hungarian paprika, Tellicherry black pepper, garlic, rosemary, thyme, and cayenne. Spicy!

This is what it takes, to have fresh Thai Red Curry Paste *thinks about scouring the markets*

17 to 20 (2- to 3-inch-long) prik haeng (dried hot red chiles), halved and seeds discarded
4 teaspoons coriander seeds
2 fresh lemongrass stalks, 1 or 2 outer leaves discarded (or use reserved bottoms from iced lemongrass tea, page 160)
1 teaspoon whole black peppercorns
4 teaspoons finely chopped peeled fresh or thawed frozen greater galangal (sometimes called kha)
6 (4-inch-long) fresh or frozen Kaffir lime leaves (sometimes called bai makroot), finely chopped
2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro roots or stems
5 small shallots, chopped (6 tablespoons)
1/4 cup chopped garlic
15 to 20 (1-inch-long) red prik kii noo (fresh bird's-eye chiles) or serrano chiles, finely chopped
2 teaspoons ga-pi (Thai shrimp paste)
1/2 teaspoon salt

What is in my Mezcal ? Oops- Not vegetarian.

"We watched as Alfonso measured out the spices (a turbinado style sugar, anise), fruits (apple, banana, pineapple),
rice and then finally the hare placed in a cheesecloth bag with yerba santa. The fermented maguey was loaded into
the still, along with the other ingredients (the conejo bag would hang above the mix) and then sealed. It would distill
all night long."

See pic- "Prepping the hare"

http://mezcalistas.com/tag/del-maguey/

"Julian wanted to finish us off with this special Mezcal Joven -- it was the strangest mezcal that is distilled through a turkey --
a perfect cap to Cinco de Mayo!"

"Pechuga generally connotes chicken or turkey breast. During the second (and usually final) distillation, breast meat is hung
in the still in a cloth bag (similar to and serving the function of cheesecloth), often with other local foodstuffs including seasonal
fruit. Don Emilio’s wife’s recipe calls for chicken breast, deer meat and a blend of select spices. The mezcal takes on a fuller, richer
taste."

It is summer in America, and BBQ is on the menu. Meat eaters love a good steak! Please be careful, when you are chewing your BBQ

Recalls for re-structured steaks, using transglutaminase (meat glue)

It is fun and amusing, when strange objects like Slim Jims are layered into the meat scraps.

What is not fun, is chewing on what you guess is gristle, and swallowing soft plastic. Or cutting your tongue with a hard plastic fragment.

Breaking a tooth on something made of metal. These "steaks" are made in a factory. Accidents happen. Things fall into the mix.

I was lucky enough to see whole sides of beef, close up. Butcher shops had large cold rooms. You could see where your steak came from.

I find it very strange, that people will buy " Imitation Beef Steaks," when whole steaks cut from a side of beef, are available.

Look for TG enzyme,” “enzyme” or “TGP enzyme,” on the label. Fool that I am, I was guessing enzyme meant papaya or pineapple.

Lay a pizza base flat in a dry frying pan (preferably non-stick) that has been on a high heat and is screaming hot.
Spread a thin layer of sauce with a ladle across the base, leaving a couple of centimetres round the edge for the crust.
Add a pinch of Parmesan, basil leaves and a quarter of the mozzarella, in that order. Drizzle with olive oil.
Once the base of the pizza has browned (about 1–2 minutes), take the frying pan and place it on the highest shelf, under the grill.
Once the crust has taken on some colour (again about 1–2 minutes), the pizza is ready to go. Eat it fast (contrary to popular belief,
pizza is not better cold the morning after!).

Kraft is removing yellow dyes #5 and #6 from their Spongebob-shaped pasta & cheese dinners. It will be more healthy and less gag-inducing.

"Our hot dogs are made with Vienna Beef products, poppy seed buns and all the condiments, just like in Chicago."
(I am sure that people in Chicago will take issue with this statement.) "Our seafood stew is made with lobster,

Pumpkin Pie Cookies

1 cup butter

2/3 cup brown sugar

A cake shaped like a bed and headboard. Sheets and a duvet made of fondant. (Or, frosting.) Haz pillows ?

Who is tucked in this bed, or lounging atop it ?

"And Mama in her 'kerchief, and I in my cap,
Had just settled our brains for a long winter's nap."

Gingerbread cookie woman and Gingerbread cookie man ? Cookie orgy of many flavors ?

Santa and Mrs. Santa ?

A naked couple, enjoying each other ?

A cat draped over the pillows, and a dog at the end of the bed.

dolf ? (This is the GB, after all!)

When I first started posting at Lit, I was alarmed that a company in California was selling nano-flavorings to the food industry.
Here is where you get into trouble with natural flavorings. Is it still natural after they have fucked with it in a lab, and break it down to the nano level ?

American consumers did not get a vote, as to whether they wanted nano ingredients or not.

Now in 2014, Nano-ingredients have entered the food supply in America-

2008. Report found just eight food products containing nanomaterials.
In 2014 that number has increased by 86 additional food products.

Yes, well known brands at your supermarket. Have some nano sized particles of metal with your breakfast!

Cotton seed oil

Organic grown cotton- Organic cotton seed oil ?

VS

Conventional cotton seed oil- GMO or non GMO
How many harmful chemicals ? Toxins ?

Although Bt cotton was developed to reduce the use of pesticides by building pest resistant genes into the cotton plant, the global implications of genetically modified cotton for human, animal, and environmental health have not been beneficial. In 2011, Pakistani farmers reported that Bt cottonseed cakes were harming their cattle. They cited lack of appetite, decline in milk production, premature deliveries, infertility and sudden death of the animals due to unknown causes. The farmers also reported that the taste of the milk, yogurt, butter, and ghee had become bitter. Skin-related itching on the animals was noticed. If Bt cottonseed was found to be harmful to animals, it is likely that food products from these animals would also be hazardous.

Olive oil is commonly mixed with other oils to reduce the cost. These adulterated oils include the use of high risk GMO cottonseed, corn, canola, and soy oil. In an FDA study testing the purity of 73 olive oils distributed domestically, only four percent of all oils were found to be unadulterated, though all were sold as 100 percent olive oil. This means that unknowingly, consumers may be using cottonseed and other GMO oils which may be unlabeled ingredients in a variety of food products.

That may explain why I am having problems with some olive oil right now. Sticking with ghee or coconut oil for now I guess.

No growth hormones given to the cows, that give the cream and milk that make my butter. *whew* Back to buying the "good" (expensive) olive oil. *sigh*

The Trouble With Antibiotics
(Check at your local PBS station.)

A urinary tract infection that will not go away, and spreads into your blood because the antibiotics have lost all ability to kill off anything.

*sigh* More soy substitute, please.

Mad cow disease, still makes surprise appearances.

What is in the house, that someone might buy ?

2014

To be on the safe side, hire an Environmental Hygenist.
They will be able to tell you if that beautiful new home
was used by a fanatic fan of Breaking Bad. yikes!

I, myself, am not surprised. They sold homes with that awful Chinese sourced drywall, and toxic mold.
