Pfizer's Fight to Keep Arsenic in Chicken Feed
April 04, 2012

The drug retained its FDA approval.

“Why [is Pfizer] now spending so much money on top drawer lobbyists to fight a ban on a drug they don’t make anymore?” Hucker asked.

"The FDA found that chickens that had eaten the Roxarsone had higher levels of inorganic arsenic, as opposed to organic arsenic,
which is naturally occurring - in their livers than chickens which had not eaten the Roxarsone. "

60 years of feeding arsenic to chickens, ends. Why did they add it to the feed ? Rosy, healthy looking breast meat.

Maryland would be the first state to successfully ban arsenic in chicken feed.

"Gov. Martin O’Malley (D) is expected to sign the bill this week, making Maryland the first state to end a practice
in existence since 1944. The law would take effect Jan. 1 for hundreds of growers on the Eastern Shore that continue
to use Roxarsone as an antibiotic with a side effect that bursts blood vessels, making meat look pink and plump.

FDA has now finally admitted that chicken meat sold in the USA contains arsenic.

What's the name of this manufacturer that has been putting arsenic in the chicken feed for all these years? Pfizer!

Chicken feed product known as Roxarsone-

Roxarsone chicken feed is a subsidiary of Pfizer, called Alpharma LLC. Even though Alpharma now has agreed to pull
this toxic feed chemical off the shelves in the United States.

Well-paid Pfizer lobbyists working with the poultry industry representatives vying to prevent the bill's passage-

Delmarva Poultry Industry, a lobby group, argued in hearings that state regulation was unnecessary because
Roxarsone was a federally licensed and approved drug.

The lobby also said the voluntary suspension of the drug by Pfizer voided the need for a state ban, even though Pfizer
could theoretically restart distribution of Roxarsone at any time.

That loophole is the reason Nachman and others question why the FDA did not suspend the drug. He said the agency
waited too long to develop the test that discovered inorganic arsenic in the chicken.

Chicken litter containing arsenic is fed to cows in factory beef operations. Cattle litter is fed to chickens. Growth hormone, antibiotics, and what else ?

Carl Wilhelm Scheele (1742-1786)
http://www.chem.yale.edu/~chem125/125/history99/2Pre1800/Scheele/Scheele.html

One of his creations was the green pigment copper arsenite, which as "Scheele's green" became a popular coloring for confections,
until it was discovered half a century later to be poisonous. Presence of this pigment in the bedroom wallpaper of Napoleon in exile
on St. Helena may have been a factor in his demise.

In 1893 an Italian Biochemist called Gosio worked out what was happening.

Scheele's Green was a colouring pigment that had been used in fabrics and wallpapers from about 1770.
It was named after the Swedish chemist Scheele who invented it. The pigment was easy to make and
was a bright green colour but under certain circumstances the copper arsenite could be deadly. Gosio
discovered that if wallpaper containing Scheele's Green became damp and then became mouldy, the
mould could carry out a chemical process to get rid of the copper arsenite. It converted it to a vapour
form of arsenic, normally a mixture of arsine, dimethyl and trimethyl arsine which was very poisonous.
If Napoleon's wallpaper had been green, it could possibly have contained arsenic, and this could have
been the source of the arsenic in the hair sample. Napoleon might have been an early victim of Gosio's
disease.

The Arsenic Century: How Victorian Britain was Poisoned at Home, Work, and Play
- James C. Whorton

"Shepherds' wives were *particularly vulnerable, thanks to the way that arsenic from the sheep dip transferred
itself into the kitchen through poorly rinsed buckets and hands. And even when arsenic was given a different
colour by being mixed with other materials in commercial products, it could still be mistaken for food by the
particularly greedy or short-sighted.

The poison was used in the production of green dyes, which were incorporated into everything from ribbons to playing cards.

Calcium sulphate was used in place of sugar, in the making of "peppermint humbugs." In 1858 a sweet maker in Bradford sent
somebody to obtain some from a druggist. However by mistake the druggists assistant picked up some arsenic thinking it was
calcium sulphate. The arsenic was added to the sweets. As a result 200 people became seriously ill and 20 died

WCVB Team 5 Investigates found the Amesbury Water Department pulled fluoride from its system amid concerns about its supply from China.
Department of Public Works Director Rob Desmarais said after he mixes the white powder with water, 40 percent of it will not dissolve.

“I don’t know what it is,” Desmarais said. “It’s not soluble, and it doesn’t appear to be sodium fluoride. So we are not quite sure what it is.”

Desmarais said the residue clogs his machines and makes it difficult to get a consistent level of fluoride in the town’s water.
Since April the fluoride pumps in Amesbury have been turned off and they will stay that way until Desmarais can find
out what’s in the fluoride that’s imported from China.

"The new facility removes arsenic, iron, manganese and radon from the town's drinking water and brings it into compliance with federal
standards for trace arsenic. It also removes the iron and manganese particulates that have resulted in the discolored water that has
led to complaints from residents for years."

It was a good thing, that they caught the problem and did a recall before Halloween.

MY friend Terry is allergic to peanuts, and this one time, he was drunk as hell, and I was stoned as hell, and I was driving around with a bunch of my friends who were in various states of intoxication, and so we decided to stop at this gas station to get snacks. We went inside, and honest to motherfucking god, there was a cop buying doughnuts. And so I was like, "Shit! Everybody act not drunk and/or high." But Terry was shitfaced. Like, could barely talk and/or walk shitfaced. So I, being the good friend that I was, was like, "Well I'm gonna watch this play out and see if he gets arrested for obvious public intoxication."

Well, he managed to get a pack of Reece Cups and some other shit fine, bought my pop like I had asked him, and we got back in the car. He was half-way through his second Reece Cup when he starts weezing and sounding like he's fucking dying from not being able to breath. So I hear another friend of mine screaming about how he's dying from the backseat, so I turn around and that motherfucker's neck is swollen up HUGE and freaky. And so I'm like, "SHIT FUCK WE GOTTA TAKE HIM TO THE HOSPITAL."

Anyway, long story short, we took him to the hospital and he had had an allergic reaction. And when he was better we were like, "WTF, T?"

And he legit says, "I didn't know there were peanuts in Reece Cups."

Now I understand why someone might just open cans, and make food from ready made mixes.
I know what is in my pie. All my favorite natural, organic things- made from the original ingredients.
Real pumpkins, maple syrup, fresh eggs, real cinnamon stick, real ginger pieces, molasses. Organic dairy butter and milk.

To think of the poor Pilgrim and Puritan ladies, slaving over a hot fireplace. They [the ladies] worked all day,
to cook the treats-
(not to mention milk the cow, make the butter, grate the sugar loaf, grind the spices, fetch the eggs, cook down the maple sap, tend the fire)
and the food they prepared was wolfed down in minutes by the children and the menfolk.

Hopefully, the ladies from the past were not too exhausted to hold their tongues. There were penalties for such trespasses. *shakes head*

My sinuses are blocked. I cannot taste the subtle fragrance of this white tea.
All that I can taste is tannin. Toasted almonds and tangerines fix the problem.

"The almond is botanically a stone fruit related to the cherry, the plum, and the peach.
Their exact ancestry in unknown, but almonds are thought to have originated in China and Central Asia."

Tea and oranges, all the way from China....(and almonds!)

Eureka! I have found it. We had a Brit chain restaurant that served up many kinds of ale and lager.
(Downtown Crossing ) My favorite treat was Cheddar and tomato pizza, with baked potato on the side.

I found the cheddar with the familiar taste-

"Westminster Cheddar is made on the farm, a few miles from the village that gave Cheddar its name.
It has been made by the same family for 6 generations, the longest continuous cheddar producers in the world."

It only took 10 (????) years.

Draap is ‘‘horse’’ spelled backward in Dutch.

A Cyprus-registered company called ‘‘Draap Trading Ltd.’’ moved to the center of Europe’s horse meat mislabeling scandal from
Wednesday, as it emerged that a man with the same name as the owner of Draap was convicted of fraud for passing off
horse meat as beef by a Dutch court last year.

Court documents in the city of Breda, Netherlands, show a Jan Fasen was convicted on Jan. 18, 2012 as the main suspect in a
case where hundreds of thousands of kilograms of horse meat or horse meat mixed with beef were mislabeled as containing only
beef and sold to two unnamed French buyers.

In the 2012 case, Fasen’s company Fasen Meat Trading BV and its accomplice Windmeijer Meat Trading BV sourced cheap
horse meat from Mexico, Brazil and Argentina, marked it up, and sold it in on, in some cases certified as being Halal: that is,
pure beef slaughtered according to Muslim dietary laws.

Strange and conflicting accounts-
Cyprus claims none of the horse meat made it into the system, yet it destroys tons of meat.
Denials that Draap LTD, was to blame, and yet- the news is out that the owner has been caught before.

German horsemeat traced to Poland
Monday February 25, 2013

News magazine Spiegel says horsemeat found in beef products withdrawn from German shelves
has been traced to a supplier in Poland.

Spiegel says beef products with traces of horse found in goulash sold by low-cost retailer Aldi
were produced by German firm Dreistern Konserven, which in turn bought its meat via a dealer
from Mipol, a Polish-based firm.

Dreistern Konserven acknowledged in a statement on its website that traces of horse DNA had
been discovered in its products but insisted it was merely a processing firm.

(German firm, H.J. Schypke also claims it bought processed meat, and had no part in the horsemeat scandal.)

North Korea sells the crabs, to some. Who process them, and sell them to America.
I do not expect that most of the crabs, are flown to America. They are very delicate

Cool article. Sounds ike a big meal but:

The best scenario is that musher sits down to enjoy the meal. But there's also the possibility that he or she might just grab a few bites and hit the door to get back on the trail if they have a musher on their tail, Fraser said.

"If the musher doesn't have time to eat, if he just grabs the steak and runs, that means the race is hot, that means the race is exciting, and so we're excited, too" Fraser said.

I forgot to add a tip of the hat, to thør

and all the delicious seafood in Alaska.

Must have good choppers, that are plenty sharp, in order to munch a steak, while on the run.
