I consider myself to be a European Brit.

Like you have Afro-Americans or Native Americans or Irish Americans or...

Well anyway, the European flag is the one I choose to wave at the moment. At International Soccer matches I wave the Union Jack...

:p

The flag is no more British than Mao Tse Tung

What I like about the man is that no matter how much shit you throw, he keeps coming back, his sense of humour intact and he doesn't appear to bear a grudge.

His devil's advocacy is also superb.

p_p_man? My account at Lloyds is .............:D

What do I like about him? I like the fact that he lives thousands of miles away from me.

The UK can keep him, he's all yours!

I really enjoy p_p_man's posts, I agree with a lot of what he says. Now there are others that I won't read, not for anything.

At least p_p_man's arguments are thought out and backed up, generally.

~chuckling~ teehee
Cheyenne, that wasn't nice!
Funny ...but, not nice.

I think what bothers me most about PeePeeMan is that he personifies much of the Anti-American bashing that is so prevalent in the UK. They love to hate us.

After having some very heated discussions with friends, I think it's due to the media available over there on the other side of the ocean (the BBC, the Mirror, the Sun specifically). There's always a 'conspiracy' slant put on everything to do with America.

If they aren't berating us for what we will do beforehand, they are twisting facts to support what they accused us of ... never an apology, nor an acknowledgement, when their accusations don't materialize.

They say Americans are "spoon fed information", regardless of our multitudes of news souces from throughout the world ... as they chose to believe the propaganda from credible news sources like al Jazera

Case in point:

President Bush is going to start WWIII by overeacting to Sept 11th

Of course, the fact that he acted rationally, in total restraint and control, by waiting three weeks to address the threat to our country by:
a) Closing our borders and airline transportation immediately.
b) Gathering undoubtable intelligence information to prove fault.
c) Creating a unanimous coalition of resources and support.
d) Approached the war on terrorism with all aspects involved.
e) Responded militarily using high technology, precise weaponry.
f) Combined the war effort with food drops to trapped areas.
g) Coordinated attacks with local military.
h) Did not rely on other countries' offers for military support.
i) Began the formation of an interim government in Afghanistan.
j) Pledged millions of additional dollars for reconstruction and aid.
k) Continues to back up the interim government militarily.

The REAL reasons that we went to Afghanistan is because
a) President Bush had a grudge to payback for his father
b) It's about OIL resources
c) We hate all muslims
d) It was good for our economy
e) President Bush wanted to help his friends who make weapons

As if September 11th was meaningless? Or not enough of a reason?

AMERICA TORTURES PRISONERS!
a) Prisoners in Guantanamo are being tortured with sensory deprivation
b) America refuses to give prisoners humane treatment
c) Terrorists are considered Prisoners of War,
(according to the Geneva Convention)
d) All sorts of violations are being discovered by Amenity Int'l

Yet, when the truth be known, the prisoners in Cuba have been, and are being, treated in a manner consistent to all acceptable consideration, in accordance with the Geneva Convention. NOT because the European press embarressed us into it; but rather, because that IS HOW America acts.

Millions of starving refugees dieing in Afghanistan because of American bombings ... the country has been completely destroyed by bombings ... thousands of innocent Afghanis have been killed and maimed by bombings.

Completely disregards the truth that Afghanistan was a pile of rubble before we landed. Over 1.5 million had fled over the borders to refugee camps years before (the same people we have sent over 4 million dollars in aid to prior to Sept 11th). In reality, the credible/proven numbers of innocent lives killed/hurt are in the low hundreds (as opposed to the erroneous thousand figure calculated)

I'm proud of our President.

I'm proud of the strength of America.

I'm thankful for those that understand and support us.

And for those who constantly misconstrue our intentions and actions, I chose not to open his threads anymore.

:)

America still needs pp_man

I am trapped in an American body.

America needs pp_man.

My opinion counts too! :)

I can't say you are wrong but I can say that it's not the way we all think.

Most of us know,in or out of a crisis, who our friends really are.

We do have a penchant for making fun of ourselves and our friends, it's just the way we are. However, when it comes to the crunch we know who is right. Please remember who the first country was to come to stand with you after September 11th.

As far as the media are concerned I'd have to agree with you, the bulk of the popular press are a disgrace. Sadly three of our newspapers and one of our TV stations are owned by an ex Austraian, now American. You wil know who I mean.

The BBC has been going downhill for years and has allowed itself to become politicised.

Rest assured Cherry, the British as a whole don't hate the USA, most of my best friends are from the USA!

Yes, I do remember. Tony Blair was BRILLIANT! He is always very supportive; but he too gets lambasted in the press for that support.

It's just so hard to hear the constant barrage of insults aimed at America, from people that we place so much trust and friendship with.

It would be appreciated, if once in a while, the BBC gave print to some of the alternative amicable thinking (as you have expressed here). Thank you for that.

Atlantic detente

Yea, sure but would you let your sister marry one?

I hope the repartee between Brits and Yanks remains good natured and amusing. I will never forget someone explaining what’s wrong with the US as we sat in a London men’s club with leather chairs, brandy, and cigars.

“You Americans have no sense of breeding. You still believe, ‘Money talks and bullshit walks’, what sort of philosophy is that on which to base a society?”

My only response was a casual remark about the well bred wanting to grow up to be tampons. I wish I had a camera to capture the sneer.

It still makes me laugh and reminds me what a great time I had in London.

Sadly my sister is already happily married, otherwise yes.

The second paragraph has nothing to do with breeding but has everything to do with inbreeding!
:D :D

What I find difficult to comprehend...

is the almost total silence from the Democrats over Bush's constant errors of judgement. Either in his tactics, policy or speeches.

Bush has been a constant clown ( or has given a fair to good impression of being one) ever since he came to world attention during the Florida debacle.

As they say, you can forgive a man once, you can forgive a man even twice, but three or more times is downright charity.

I freely admit I don't like or trust the man. I think he has a major juvenile flaw in his character that makes him totally unsuitable to be the leader of the "greatest nation on earth". In fact the Chinese said as much yesterday when they rejected his plea for them to become involved in negotiations with the North Koreans.

With all these black marks against him I would have assumed any opposition worth it's salt would be stamping all over him by now.

But the Democrats aren't.

If you calculate that America is split in their support of him, think what the rest of the world must think when it sees years of hard work and negotiations on many issues flushed down the toilet by a man who just swaggers away from the negotiating table when he can't get his own way.

He is not liked by me personally, and I'd take a bet that he's not liked by most other nations generally, despite what we all see in the media.

So what's with the Dems?

They should have him reeling on the ropes by now...

:)

pp_man, it's 9/11

Don't overlook the effect of 9/11. Dems are being very cautious. The tragedy of 9/11 has indelibly affected the American psyche.

Many Americans, including myself, approve of our nation's response to the horrific crime committed against us (not saying America's hands are not dirty in its own ways). Many people equate support of the president with support of the United States- I am not one of those people.

I don't like him. I never have liked him. And have been a great fan of www.bushorchimp.com

He's not a total moron because he does have some bright minds around him.

Still, I would pay him the lousy $300 bucks back if he would leave and still think of him as an organgrinders little monkey dancing to the tune of America's wealthiest 5%.
