What I don't get about racial story feedback

I haven't written a racial story yet, and I believe people should be with any adult they want, but I've heard of people writing interracial stories getting hatemail from people who were racists.

This, to me, provokes a question.

If they believe mixing races is wrong, why do they read the stories at all, let alone take the time to send you feedback?

Hmm... a puzzler. Anyone have an idea?

By the way, while I'm here, feel free to feedback mine. Follow the link below...

Diane and Craig - BSDM, woman dominates cheating husband.
The "Tastes" - Erotic coupling, virgin, etc.
An Erotic Sonnet - poetry.

All of my stories have had interracial themes and, so far, I have not recieved any of the afore mentioned hate-mail.

I've recieved good reviews and positive feedback. But then again, I tend to write about black people having sex with other black people, which brings me to my theory on this so-called hate mail.

Many times, while crusing the interracial section I come across stories that feature black men characterized as huge, Mandingo-like, sexual dynamos preying on tender young white women. Black women are vixens who love to fuck. Archaic stereotypes, of course.

I believe that if you have a person who is bigoted or holds vaguely negative ideas about people of other races, the last thing they want to see are stories that paint them as being sexually inferior.

Of course a coward can post his thoughts anonymously and trash stories that probably make he/she insecure. Never mind that other white people probably write the majority of these stories.

Personally, I feel the way to begin combating this is to take care to write stories that cast a more human light on characters of other races. This may be hard because I'm sure that many authors don't spend a lot of real time with the types of people they attempt to portray. Plus, it's all fantasy.

Of course I wouldn't presume to suggest to someone how they should write their characters, but keep these ideas in mind if you don't want to risk inflaming or offending anyone. Otherwise write what you want and tell the ignorant people to fuck off if they don't like it.

So, why do people send hate mail? Racists are motivated by fear and they attack the things that scare them. I think it's that simple.

I completely agree...

I agree -- a lot of the stories I've read who had a black man in them must be using the same man... he's always completely quiet, owning a horse-like cock, and barely given a name...

I think authors should write stories about people who just happen to be black, or just happened to be gay, or just happen to be straight...

Don't let it completely define them.

I think medjay has touched on what it might be that spurs hatemail. But I would also say that, in addition to those who may feel they have been made to look inferior, many people of color (that's ALL color, btw) feel that there are certain stereotypes about them that upset them. Some of the "hatemail" may actually be from black men or latina women or __________ (insert ethnicity and sex here) who are upset at being portrayed in that manner.

I've written 2 stories that are interracial. Now, granted, I did not place them in the interracial category, as race was not the primary "thing" about the stories. Also, it was between a white female and an Hispanic male(s). In both, I tried to portray the Hispanic men as just normal guys. I avoided stereotypes altogether. Both stories have been my most popular and have received the highest votes so far. And the feedback for one was exceptional - only one negative comment, and it had to do with dialogue.

I also think that when people say "interracial", the common thought is black and white. I haven't written to this yet, and maybe if I did I would experience some of the hatemail that others get. Who knows?

I think it's important to stay away from stereotypes as much as possible. However, there are people who do have fantasies involving these stereotypes, so what is a writer to do? Ya can't please everybody!

To date I have not written a mixed race story, or at least a story I have categorised as mixed race. This leads me to the point I want to make.

Surely any story put into the mixed race category, is being put there because race is the primary factor. As soon as that happens stereotyping is bound to occur. Now I think Lit is a great place, but I have to say I have serious doubts as to the correctness of having this category. - It would seem to act as a magnet to racists who want their stereotypes reinforced.

If I was a racist with a complex that I had a small dick and a paranoid fear that everyone out of Africa had a cock like an Elephant and was ready to fuck the arse off my wife, I can be assured my fears are justified by looking at those stories.

If I want to believe that every woman from the Indian Sub-continent was born with the Kama Sutra encoded in her DNA I can get that belief reinforced.

Good non-stereotypical inter-racial stories fit as easily in other categories so maybe there is a case to scrap the category.

I enjoy reading and writing gay male stories. When I posted my first story here, some homophobe felt compelled to write and tell me that he feels "fags are disgusting." I deleted the email without bothering to respond.

Why did he bother writing? Why did he click on a story that was clearly labeled "gay male"? Hell if I know. The Internet is full of assholes with wayyyyyy too much time on their hands.

There's no reason to get rid of the interracial category because the writers get hate mail similiar to the letter I received. Many people enjoy interracial stories for a variety of reasons that have nothing to do with racial stereotyping. Just like some men prefer blondes, some white women prefer black men, and some black men prefer white women, and some white men prefer Asian women, and so on. It's just what they're attracted to.

because there are alot of ignorant people out there still when it comes to interacial relationships etc, they just need to get over it, write your story and post it, i'll read it
