I'm looking and I'm looking... and I just can't find a real apology in there.

“To the extent that I made judgments that ultimately proved to be incorrect, I apologize to the three students that were wrongly accused,” Durham County District Attorney Mike Nifong said.

I remember my mom making me apologize for pushing little susie down a flight of steps... if I had said "To the extend that I made a judgement that ultimately proved painful to you, I apologize." I would have gotten my ass kicked AGAIN.

WTF!!!

Here's another gem... I might have to call a lawyer to decipher what he's actually saying.

"I have every confidence that the decision to dismiss all the charges was the correct decision based on that evidence,” Nifong said.

We live in time of common rudeness - an apology belongs to another age and the self-serving attitude extends all the way down from the top.

The problem is, that to appologize would be to formally admit guilt in whatever affair you are dealing with...in this day and age that's almost enought o win you a lawsuit on its own

I'm sorry. I had steeled myself to resist posting seriously in the stupid political threads, but failed. I rededicate myself to your example of mockery in the face of....well, pretty much everything. Again, sorry.

How's that? :)

Shrugs. People don't like taking responsibility for their fuck ups, especially those in power. They're afraid that if they are wrong, they'll lose their power.

We also live in a society where error is not permissible. We spend our whole lives training to be experts in a single area. Our livelihoods and egos are dependent on that expertise. If we made a mistake, it shows we are not experts after all, and so endanger out livelihoods and egos.

Thus, in our society, there can be no mistakes.

Rob, I'm sorry that we didn't get to spend more time together in Chicago.
