Re-formatted for clarity:

I don’t mean Lit categories, I mean the type of genres applied to mainstream books, movies etc.

So, for me:

  • Supernatural (Angels & Demons)
  • Space / Aliens
  • Police thriller
  • Romance (lesbian & hetero)
  • Chick Lit (kinda)
  • Coming of age
  • Action / adventure
  • Comedy
How about you?

  • Psychological thriller

  • Ghost

Young Adult
Romance
Crime
Comedy
though I've been far and away the most prolific in Non-fiction (travelogues; music reviews, profiles and interviews; opinion editorials; recipes; literary criticism)

I've written poetry, prose, and scripts (for film, radio and the stage), but I would consider those forms rather than genres.

I don’t mean Lit categories,
Sorry to see this. I had already composed an answer if it were Lit categories. I looked at the several threads suggested by Lit and then searched for "Lit Categories" in subjects. Found one from 2005, but it wasn't quite right.

Do we have a thread lying around that asks this same question about Lit categories or genres in Lit, so as not to get tied up in the sometimes inconsistent definitions of formal categories?

Fanfic, Romance, Supernatural, Superhero, Fantasy, Sci fi, Stroke, Crime, Comedy, Horror, Game Walkthrough, Drama, Historical Fiction, Action Thriller, Coming of Age. Not sure of the definition of “chick lit” but I may have done that also.

Try this one, maybe:
I category hop all the time. But, even so, i tend to stick to areas such as:

The link works, but the topic doesn't exactly. "Who is the most versatile author you know here?" Or words to that effect. But thanks for trying!

Those are Lit categories - this isn’t about Lit categories. Police thriller isn’t a Lit category. Others seem to have no problem understanding. I have no idea what the point of harking back to threads about something else could be.

I have no idea what your point is. 🤷‍♀️

I looked “chick lit” up on Wikipedia and it was defined as media about women such as Waiting to Exhale and Steel Magnolias. Some of my stories have been partially inspired by those films, so yeah, I guess I’ve done it. :)

Erotica, horror, science fiction, non-fiction humor, sports, primary research (business, social sciences, medicine, psychology, mathematics).

I’ve done horror, but only in 750 word stories, I kinda think that doesn’t count.

I don’t understand why we are looking for previous threads about Lit categories on a thread which is not about Lit categories. It makes zero sense.

Emily
I'm looking for previous threads about Lit categories BECAUSE this one is not about Lit categories. The title made me think it might be and I thought people here might know of one. It's not in any way a criticism of this thread.

I wish the Wik author could have put words to "Waiting" and "Steel." Surely not all books about women are chick lit. Yes, I agree, you know it when you see it.

OK - my misunderstanding 😊
