What emotion do you "write from"?

Do you write from contentment, from sadness, from anger, from despair, from loneliness, from joy?

All the above.

For the most part, I don't write from any one emotion.

I write, for one, because it is my job. And secondly, I write because I need to.

I write best...

when I'm either suffering through despair, loneliness or sadness... I guess they're just the easiest emotions for me to understand and to harness... When I'm happy or content I'm too afraid to do something that would fuck it up. God doesn't that sound pathetic? Shit, I feel another story coming on.

JJ_1,

That's what I was wondering about. I heard some musician say that behind every great song was a great pain, and I know that I do my best writing when I'm not really depressed, but kind of unhappy and dissatisfied.

But I think I do my absolutely best stuff out of a sense of rage or fury. It seems to work for me. I'm comfortable there.

thinking about this one... it's interesting.

my writing doesn't stem from originally having an emotion... but while i write, the emotions come flooding in - my character's emotions fill me to overflowing and give me the sense of urgency to write their needs.

however during a recent low point, i found myself writing thoughts that turned into something similar to poetry. more that they were short brief intense sentences really.

For me it's:

All of the above too, as long as it is intense and passionate.

Lo all

Pure devilment friend, I started writing erotica to wind a friend up a bit, and I suppose I only write now when I'm in a horny or devilish mood.

I wouldn't really describe it as an emotion as such, and I could never be inspired when in an adverse mood of any kind, ie: sad or pissed off about something.

interesting question

I usually write with a sense of irritation and urgency because the characters and their stories have popped into my head and won't leave me alone until I commit them to paper (or document). When I am writing, I tend to experience the emotions of the characters as I go along. That's why I keep a box of tissues next to the computer.
