What does the word 'Smut' mean to you?

Is it all just a blur?

because i feel like calling it a fungus, not because i feel like a fungus.

OH, SHit! I forgot the "They go hand in hand, like the moldy filth they are." option below the fungus option, but above the other option.

 @ Moronfish

A fungus that grows on ears of corn ( maize - for the benefit of our international audience) I've got generations of experience with it. I've read it's edible, but I never tried it.

Yep, that is Corn smut for sure. Some Poshies eat it as a delicacy. I call that moronicness out of boredom, but whatever.

Just remember that there are other types of fungal smuts in many forms.

Lol Poshies also eat snail, and fish eggs as "delicacies." They have too much time on their hands, is what I say.

I define smut as the first thing, but in a dirty way, not in a sexy, get-me-hot-and-bothered sort of way. I view smut as the lowliest of low porn that anyone could get, not worth the paper it's printed on.

It reminds me of ergot on rye ( natural source of LSD for you laypeople), which is why I was always suspicious of the safety. Are they related?

Snails are tasty with lemon and garlic.
They remind me of clams, but hey, they're molusks, too.

I envy Californians because they can capture the critters fresh.

So is a rust a mold, or what?

I am an impossible dork.

Rusts (Order: Uredinales) are a parasitic fungi, but are very different from mold. Mold, Mildew, Rusts and Smuts are all various types of microfungi, but they are all in different families.

Rust can be very dangerous stuff to crops, and are a huge problem because their numbers are up around 6000-7000 species.
