What do you use to clean your toys?

We touched on this in the fear of anal thread, but I think it is a wonderful topic for a thread of its own.

I carry antibacterial dish soap in my bag, and a spray bottle of isopropyl alcohol, and paper towels.

I use condoms on my dildos and vibrators so that they are easier to clean. The exception are my anal beads, which are silicone, and they clean quite nicely.

I mostly use the same stuff, although I don't use condoms on my vibrators or buttplugs. However, they are only used on the same person, so it is not an issue. Or is there another reason for doing this that I don't know about?

You also mentioned using latex gloves Eb... could you tell us more about those and why you like to use them? I think that would be insightfull here as well.

I cover my hands with latex gloves cause even though you may cut your fingernails really short, you can still tear delicate membranes in the anal and/or vaginal canals.

Also they lube up better than your hand. Your hand can absorb a lot of the lube. The latex won't.

If you have a latex allergy get the other kind ( I forget what they are called).

If you only use them on one person, it is a mot point, except the latex lubes up better I think.

The non-latex gloves are either Nitrile or vinyl. They seem a bit stronger than latex too, and if you're going to be using anything oil based they are definitely the way to go.

I've always cleaned toys with plain old antibacterial soap, but rinsed VERY well, because I found out the hard way if even the slightest bit of that stuff gets in my vagina it trips a raging infection. Damn, I hate being so sensitive...

My ex used gloves if we did anything that involved his fingers in or near my anus. It was SO much cleaner and more convenient that way, because then if he wanted to touch me elsewhere, or even touch anything else, he didn't have to stop to wash his hands or wipe lube off of them, just took the glove off.

We only used condoms on toys that had ever been in my anus at any point, just to be CERTAIN that nothing was crossing the border, so to speak. Otherwise all our toys had only been used on me, so that was a non-issue.

Thanks cirrus. I could not think of the other gloves. Eb

I love safe suds. It is easy to use and doesnt leave any icky residue.

Uses condoms on anything that may go in more than one orifice, and hot water and anti-bacterial soap for cleaning.

How about leather toys? Floggers, crops... ?

I use an alcohol spray and paper towels.

Then later you can use leather cleaner.

Yes, alcohol for leather toys...

But for my silicone dildo? I boil it. It's great -- boil for three minutes and then dump it into the colander to cool. Can you picture it? A red, wobbly penis steaming in my sink.

Ah, thanks. Has heard both - one can and one shouldn't use alcohol for cleaning purposes on leather... would that include soft leathers like the tails of a deer skin flogger, without adversely affecting it?? Supposes leather dry cleaning would work.

Mine are only used on one person (me :D) so it hasn't been much of a concern, but curious as always.

Hello everyone:rose:

Antibacterial soap & hot water works great, but I like to take it a step further. I have found these wonderful antibacterial wet wipes that you can microwave. Heat them up & clean up those toys before and after using.;)

Here’s a list of things that I keep in my toy box:)

Antibacterial soap
Alcohol
Antibacterial wet wipes
Antibacterial lotion (clean your hands before you start)
Condoms
Latex gloves

If you think I am missing something please let me know.

NemoAlia sis, boiling your silicone dildo wowza! I will start doing that to mine thanks for the idea.

Be well & safe everyone ~ respectfully,

Eb Ma'am:rose:

Most silicone toys are dishwasher safe:) I cannot see myself putting my silicone toys in the dishwasher; the last time I tried using the dishwasher it blew up. `sigh` What luck:(

Because my toys are only ever used on me I clean them with anti bacterial soap or if they have been anywhere near my anus then they get washed and then clean with a weak clorox solution.

cleaning

I work as an hiv/hepC counselor. The researchers tell us bleach is the only common medium that kills retroviruses. You can use a 10 percent solution and allow it to dry on the toy. (then, with a good deerskin or fine leather, you can recondition as desired.)

There is a medical type spray that's supposed to be really good on floggers, but I can't recall the name of it. I couldn't find it here. If I can find the printout, I'll post it later.

Is that especially for cleaning toys?

Yes, i get it at the local sex shop. They reccomend it highly and often give away free samples to encourage using it. It contains, Purified water, ammonium laurel/laureth sulfate, cocimidopropyl betaine, cocomie DEA, methyl/propylparabens.

Thanks for the heads up. I am gonna get some and try it!

A lot of people use this on floggers. It doesn't hurt the leather. I did find a comment on another board where I guy said it doesn't get deep enough into the pores of the leather to kill embedded nasties, but I think it's fine as long as there is no blood.

Staphene® Disinfectant Spray
Convenient 20 oz aerosol spray disinfectant and deodorizer destroys gram positive and gram negative organisms and acid fast bacilli, fungi, and many viruses such as HIV (AIDS). Effective even against TB Bacteria in the presence of 5% serum. Controlled drying time of disinfectant spray keeps surface wit long enough to permit effective germicidal kill. Suitable on hard surfaces, without fear of rust or damage.

I buy isopropyl alcohol by the 5 gal bucket for work and I wash everything with isopropyl alcohol. It will kill anything............

I clean with soap and water first then isopropyl.

I prefer silicone toys. I clean them with antibacterial soap. However, after use I soak them in a very hot solution of bleach, water and soap.

Latex toys are cheap, and they out-gas too many noxious chemicals, i.e., they stink!
