maybe, hey, do PM me, do you live there?

I've only driven through, on the way to Canada. It's scary. It makes Spanish Harlem look like Bronxville.

wait, I used to hang out on 103rd and first and I lived in Washington Heights, what are you saying? *laughing*

It's four hours from Chicago.

Keep driving.

*laughing* If I ever have the opportunity, love, you won't be able to keep me away.

Well...I've been there to a guitar show, which was at the State Fairgrounds and I remember a lot of weird left turns to get anywhere. You have to go past where you want to turn, make a U-turn,then come back and turn right. I don't know Detroit very well, but have never had a bad experience there. My hubby is the only man I know who can find a petoskey stone in downtown Detroit...go figure!!

ohhhhhh I just read up on petoskey stones, thanks carrie-on

Parts of it look like Beirut - buildings that look like they've been bombed, windows broken or boarded up. Don't get lost. They give you different directions to follow depending on the colour of your skin.

The Lions and Tigers play there...and they are both terrible.

The Red Wings play there too...they are Stanly Cup champions...and since hockey is the greatest sport, their glory is more than adequate to make up for the embarrasments that are the Lions and Tigers...:)

..Detroit is fun...just don't go alone...

Hmmm....I was about to contribute until I read that part about it just being for a contest. <shrug>

Oh well. <g>

 contribute if you like or don't, but I'm still looking into it. ANd it's about writing poetry in support of a city, nothing else.

Motor City demographics

The most striking thing about Detroit is its population halved from 1950 to 2000, as auto plants closed down and moved to places like Mexico, and even the ones that stayed slashed jobs dramatically.

But you probably already know that, perks.

actually, I've been looking at the history of the place, it's quite interesting. Also the underground music scene is amazing.

Funny thing about Detroit. It's very much like most any other large city. Some streets you would feel comfortable walking down at 2am. Others you wouldn't want to stroll down during lunchtime.

It's that way anywhere. People get on this big kick about Detroit being dirty...and abandoned....and dismal. Well...I hate to break it to you, but what large city *DOESN'T have areas in it that way? I'm not denying the fact that there are bad areas down there. But...there are some great spots too.

And...before you think I'm some large "PRO-DETROIT" person, I'll have you know that I technically live nearly two hours from the City. I've never lived down there, but I have spent some time down there, and in fact used to drive down there several times a week for one of my previous jobs.

If you're into people watching...take a drive down Woodward Ave. sometime. It's like a real-life television show. <g>

Good luck, PB. <g>
