What Destroys a Lit Person's Credibility?

And I guess I'm throwing in respect, too. I'm not asking for you to list names, I'm just wondering if there has been someone you once respected and trusted and, now, their opinion and thoughts have no value to you.

Or do you have a "Lituition" about such people and have never been deceived?

What caused you to change your view of someone? Lies are an obvious answer...but anything else?

Hmm... actions behind a poster's words? That and when you have been here long enough, you can learn a lot when you sit back and simply observe. I have learned a lot about other's that way. It's blind faith here when you think about it. I am fairly trusting with a bit of cautiousness. It's interesting to watch how someone interacts and treats other's. I guess that goes back to my observation theory. Sometimes, the assholes are obviously apparent and red flags are waving everywhere. I give the benefit of the doubt until someone proves me otherwise. I like consistency.

Edited to add: Take a look at the people you call friends here. While they all may be from different walks of life, what do they share in common. I did this one night. Seriously thinking about the small circle of people of whom I call friends here. They are all people that are worthy of extending into my everyday life. The common balance is they are genuinely good people with no hidden agenda. They aren't full of hatred and for the most part conduct themselves in a respectful manner towards other's here. We don't always agree and share the same view, but we respect each other for having different opinions. In the end... they are consistent.

I will disclaimer not all come here to make friends. (It wasn't my first intention). So my thoughts on this wouldn't apply to all. Hell it's early and I am working on not much sleep. Feel free to ignore my ramblings.

I think you can tell a lot about a person in how they react to a certain situation.

Posters who post in anger, lose my respect. The ones who spew hatred from their lips only to turn around 10 minutes later and apologize. It shows me they are not capable of keeping their feelings in check. I cannot stand someone who is unnecessarily cruel.

Now, I realize that we all get angry and may say things we did not mean. I'm talking about the extreme. The "I hope you are raped" kinda people.

How do you gain credibility with strangers?

Or credibility on a board that is filled with people trying to be who they aren't?

Lucky I'm one of the few that has no credibility other than knowing how to piss people off.

I can see the red flags waving like the Chinese people at a Communist Party Birthday celebration.

Offline I am credible in everything I do. That counts. This doesn't.

It's hard to do with me.......

Each person here has their own "style," whether it's caustic or flirtatious. I appreciate every poster, even if we are direct opposites in general views of our world.
It really wears me thin when someone voices a desire to see my country destroyed, or civilians and military killed, especially non-US subjects that have no clue on how we work except what they're told in their Worker's World publications.
But, since there's no physical interaction, I can't take stuff here to seriously, so I'll just keep on having fun!

At first I took everything I read here literally. Now I take it with a grain of salt. You just don't know whom you can trust, until they prove you can trust them.

While I agree somewhat with Kuntmode that the net is filled with strangers, I still feel that how a person acts in real life can also be how they act here. I do however not believe this is 100% true, people do all sorts of things when they have the curtain of facelessness to hide behind.

I tend to look at anything here with a lot of speculation. After I come to know someone thru PM's or talking, I make up my own mind to believe or disbelieve. They say a leopard can not change it's spots. While this is true, human beings are not leopards. We can change how we act and what we say when we choose. The worst liar today can become someone painfully honest.

Lying to me is the best way to lose credibility with me.
Behaving in a way that was hurtful to others is the next best way.

Yes I have lost respect for some on the boards. Mostly they deal with attitudes that are unreasonable.
