What are you watching?

A couple of movies revisited today.

First was Kingsman: The Golden Circle, which may be as good as the first. Fortunately, I only remembered about half of it. I wouldn't call the mayhem silly - it fits the tone they set (which they do well) and becomes a gleeful bloodfest. More of these movies, please.

Next, an old favorite: Clint Eastwood's Hang 'Em High. Following the huge success of his and Sergio Leone's "Fistful" trilogy, this was his first starring role in a Hollywood film, and it does not disappoint. With a solid story and great acting from Eastwood and supporting actors who were, or would become, staples of U.S. TV, it's a great homeland start for an American Icon.

Also featuring the beautiful and talented Inger Stevens, this film is a sad reminder of her tragic life. In short, with a bad childhood, she seemed to be looking for love and acceptance wherever she could find it, having had affairs with many co-stars over the years. They ruled her death in 1970 a suicide by an overdose of barbiturates, but her sad story is much more than that.

I love watching different series....right now The Last Frontier on Apple as well as The Morning Show......getting ready for second season of Landman

Watched some more movies today:

A first viewing of Boarding Gate, a waste of time starring Asia Argento, whose nipples were the saving grace (almost). This is muddled, with a simple story stretched out by what screenwriters call 'shoe leather' - empty events/sequences that add nothing to promote the plot or character development. Garbage.

Next, a long overdue second watching of the excellent Zoe Saldana film Columbiana. I trust Luc Besson, who produced and co-wrote, and his taste in directors, Olivier Megaton is impeccable. Fast paced, with exquisite cinematography and editing, this film boasts both awesome action and a main character with heart. Both Saldana and Amandla Stenberg as her 10-year-old self turn in stunning performances.

Now, I'm halfway through what turned out to be a second watching of Antonio Banderas action flick Security. I'm totally good to sit through it again. Banderas is an appealing, likeable presence (except for the irritating 'Chatty Cathy' babbling roles in the Expendables franchise) who merely dabbles in the action genre. I'd rather watch him than Dolph Lundgren or Steven Seagal any day.
