What are you watching?

Couple of movies today:

Second viewing of Spider-Man: Homecoming. Great fun, decent plot, great performances by Tom Holland (who may be my favorite Spidey so far) and Michael Keaton as the villain.

Next, a first viewing of Guillermo del Toros's Masterpiece Frankenstein. No Frankenstein movie has ever been truly faithful to Mary Shelley's original novel, and this only includes a couple of key elements and locales.

This film could only have been written and directed by del Toro, whose excellence at imagery and character brings real, believable emotions and moral dilemmas to the story. Plus, it's gorgeous to watch.
Bravo!

Three movies:

Finished up a second viewing of Rob Roy. Lush cinematography and great acting turns from all, including Jessica Lange and Tim Roth. A simple story about personal honor, set against the centuries-long evil perpetrated on Scotland by the English Crown. Great flick, so now I'm set for the next 30 years.

Next, because it came up as a "customers also watched" selection on Prime, was Braveheart, set about 500 years before Rob Roy. On maybe my third viewing, it still ranks as a stunning masterpiece, and a fitting winner of Best Picture and Best Director (Mel Gibson, who also starred). Factual? Who cares?

Next, I went slumming with Michael Jai White's Welcome to Sudden Death. I like White, but even in his generic action genre, this was lame. Same story as dozens of others, but the interactions were lame, and the 'gospel' of these flicks - the fight scenes, were amateurish and wooden.

Finishing out The Unit - not sure how many episodes are left. Great show, but now I just want to see that cheating bitch and the commanding officer get their due.
