What are you watching?

Today it's movies:

Finished up a first viewing of Greenland with Gerard Butler and the delicious Morena Baccarin, from Homeland and V), an often grim 'end of the world' story. Morena shines, and Butler is, well... Butler, but this gut-wrenching story with 'in your face' directing and cinematography stays intriguing and suspenseful from beginning to end.

Next up, was a first viewing of Caddo Lake, a film that starts slowly, but builds to an intensity, with a complex mystery that slowly gets spelled out. This is not a popcorn feature - you have to pay attention, but what seems, for a while, as a muddled mess comes together beautifully by the end. Don't watch if you don't want to think about the flicks you're viewing. This one requires thinking.

Next, I started giving Ridley Scott's Prometheus another shot, after a long time. Fortunately, I've forgotten most of it, but I'm sure I'll remember when the last of the 2nd act and the 3rd act reveal the worst, stupidest cliches and logic in the Sci-Fi genre (what I felt when I first saw it). We'll see...

Watching videos of women playing the drums. My friend plays in a band and he convinced me to signup for lessons…it will be a good arm workout 🤣😬💪🏻

Movies:

Finished up Prometheus from last night, and it wasn't the movie I thought I had seen before (space movie/ maybe similar name), and it was great!

Next was Liam Neeson in Ice Road: Vengeance on Netflix. I expected a standard 'actiony' flick, but it was the film's simple premise that created a great palette for what followed. It was taut, moved fast, kept the tension high, had great action and human stories blended in naturally. Great performances all round, but especially with Bingbing Fan and Neeson. Very Impressed.

Next was The Out-Laws, with Adam Devine (the guy from those commercials) and Pierce Brosnan. It set a goofy tone early, so it held up, with only a couple of the setups failing. Good action, good silly fun.

I saw Deadpool and Wolverine on Disney + it was a lot better than I expected it to be but it had a lot of gore.

Watching Duster on Prime. So far, it's great! After 'Lost' ended, many of the principals turned up on other shows, but I didn't see Duster star Josh Holloway anywhere. It turns out that he continued working, but not on stuff I watched.

His presence and taciturn delivery works well for him here. Great series so far.
