What are you watching?

Movies:

From the World of John Wick: Ballerina

Fabulous flick, and it uses 'the world' at minimal advantage, but effectively. The star, Ana de Armas, the very memorable kick-ass chick from Bond's No Time to Die, is fantastic, with great acting chops and a savage approach to her work. Action worthy of any Wick film, and even more innovative (extended fight with flamethrowers!). Wick is there in parts - more than just a cameo, but de Armas carries this movie flawlessly.
From No Time to Die:

Next, a repeat viewing of Fast & Furious (#4 - before the standard team was assembled) - the one that marked the turn of Paul Walker from Fed to full-time criminal. Plenty of action, and plenty of hot booty, and the fabulous Wonder Women, Gal Gadot in a tight white shirt with nipples poking through. This franchise is always a fun ride.

Next was Shadow Force, a terrific action movie that has a ton of heart. The couple at the center, Kerry Washington and Omar Sy, have great, natural chemistry and a realistically depicted relationship all about keeping their adorable and talented son safe from old enemies. Movies almost never get this type of scenario right - usually loaded up with lame jokes and unlikely action. This does everything right to an amazing degree. I highly recommend.

I watched the latest Superman flick, mostly just to add it to my superhero 'list,' because I was unimpressed by the trailers. It's no gem, but it's not as bad as reviewers would have you think.

The problem, an often issue, is the tone, but bad scripting is the ultimate villain here. This is a mess that's all over the place, but it's not to say that there is much works very well. This flick goes from silly to goofy to downright dopey, which is the result of bad screenwriters and the director, James Gunn, who allowed this asinine farce to go forward.

There is much to enjoy here - not just the great action, but great emotional moments - just disregard the meaningless bullshit.

Next was Burner, a low budget flick that defies logic and character motivation, but still remains fairly effective. If you watch, be prepared.

Now, I'm halfway Through Rampage, another low budget flick about a loser who engages in a killing spree. There is no insight, and nothing redeemable here. There is no 'message' - just a brutally merciless film with a decent budget for ammo and squibs.
Is Rampage the flick where the kid goes in to a hair salon to get a drink of water and then murders everyone there? There is also a bank robbery?

I watched that movie (or something similar) and it was just so dark it made feel icky.

Just watched the DeVo documentary on Netflix, which means that I now need to listen to all their albums

There is a point where he goes into a hair salon, but over all, it sounds like you may be thinking of a different movie - one that also rings as familiar to me as well. It's only been a week, but I forgot if there was a bank robbery or not. Pretty forgettable flick.

I've got that Devo doc in my queue as well. Loved that band!

Not really a tribute to my very first live-in girlfriend, but today was Becky Day.

First, I watched The Wrath of Becky on Netflix. With flashbacks and Becky's narrative, it was obviously a sequel, but I kept with this joyous teenage girl revenge gorefest because it didn't seem tied to the first one. FUCKING AWESOME! Gleeful and slightly over the top bloody mayhem. Ivan show this poster because the amazing star, Lulu Wilson, was 18 by this movie's principal photography.

Next, I finally found the original Becky on You Tube, made when Lulu was only 16, playing 13 (so no movie poster). Awesome mayhem again! Kevin James gave an impressive, very credible turn as a vicious neo-Nazi.

Here's the trailer for the sequel:

Next, I'm halfway through a second viewing of Arnie's 1999 End of Days. It's fine, some action, but religious prophecy shit is never my thing. Gabriel Byrne does a nice job as the devil.
