I know there are people out there that are truly happy being married to their person. I'm sure they've worked their asses off to keep it that way. I was happily married. We had our ups and downs and we definitely weren't perfect, but I was happy. It gives me hope when I see those people that it really is worth the risk and effort.

Generationally speaking it has zero use now. Glad you had your ending. I too like to see a happy couple. I just don’t think being married help that. You are either in it for life or not. Some dumb cow or price of paper doesn’t make it any more of a commitment.

I honestly felt like I was bullied into getting married. And I went along with it because I was genuinely fond of my prospective wife's family, and I went along with their expectations. Getting divorced was an uphill battle against inertia--there was no anger, just boredom and indifference and distractions. But along the way there were two wonderful children. They are the reason the whole thing was worth it.
