There was a news post a week or so ago where a female DJ literally ended up with a metal straw in her head which killed her.

It was in one of those mason jar mugs with a screw on lid which had a hole in it for the metal straw. She fell somehow and it went through her eye.

I'd heard of injuries where people had fallen onto something that pierced their eye that way or onto a sliver of glass. Just never a metal straw.

So be careful with those metal straws, I don't ever plan on using one of them.

I’ve been using metal straws for years with no mishaps.

I'm in the stainless steel straw camp. They're environmentally friendly and keep your drink ice cold until it hits your lips.

But knowing my kids, one of them is going to end up with a straw in her eye.

Naw. I grew up with no seat belts in the family station wagon (we stood on the seats) tuna and mayo sandwiches wrapped in wax paper that have sat out for hours, and yada, yada, yada ...shut up already grandma.

Environmentally friendly stainless steel straws rock. IMHO.
