It all depends if you were childhood friends, family friend or if you had any sexual tension experiences or flirtation in your friendship. I know I wouldn't want any woman of mine hanging out alone with another man. It does suck when it happens and it doesn't feel good at all, but I am usually understanding.

Edited to add: I do have old school values and I believe it's a positive attribute. To be chivalrous, to be the rock for your woman and family, to provide for your family are all admirable traits.
