This is in memory of Caustic Resin bassist Tommy "Dirtweed" Romich who passed away two weeks ago today.
Tom was a great musician and good friend.
He wasn't a liberal.
He wasn't a conservative.
He was just a guy who loved living life to the fullest, partying hard until one day it caught up with him...
....and of course, exercising his Second Amendment rights.
Which I suppose is part of why I posted his song here. The sound effects at the beginning of the song are him shooting a shotgun. One of my memories of this guy was him showing me his grandfather's rifle, which he said was used to fire at low-flying strafing aircraft during the Second World War. I have many great memories of this guy, so hopefully you can groove to his song. Nothing controversial here, just good music.
So... Enjoy!
Marianne Faithfull was born in London, England on 29 December 1946. She is an English singer and actress who achieved popularity in the 1960s with the release of her hit single "As Tears Go By" and became one of the lead female artists during the British Invasion in the United States.
Marianne Faithfull passed away on January 30, 2025 at the age of 78. Her best-known song is "As Tears Go By,"
The lines in this song speak of a centuries old devotion, and the legends of a time all but forgotten. Puck tirelessly follows his queen, even though her mind has faded and she no longer speaks, but in her fog still wanders the land singing the ancient songs of England. He loves her forever despite the fact that she likely isn't even aware he's there right beside her anymore. They exist in the twilight, but it isn't morning's glow, but the waning light of dusk. Still he follows her forever. Such a beautiful and sorrowful song.
Faye Wong - "Fragile Woman" - english subs - it's based off an old Japanese song sung by Naomi Chiaki, "Ru Ju / Rouge" (Lipstick). Faye does different Mandarin and Cantonese versions of this
There's an english-language cover by "Jessica Jay" from 1993 - "Jessica Jay" (not a real person) was a SAIFAM music project which used various vocalists and models for different releases. This one was apparently a big hit in Thailand, it kind of fits with what I heard about Patpong and Soi Cowboy and Nana Plaza. LOL
OMG I heard this years ago in Kalimantan when I was a kid and my dad was working there - it was really popular on Indonesian radio and I heard it all the time and then I just ran into this and realized this was the same song. Small world.....
I love the internet. Here's the original of Denpasar Moon. I knew it was written by "Sabah Habas Mustapha," that's on the credits, but it turns out that good 'ol Mustapaha was a guy called Colin Bass who recorded this in Jakarta 1992 at Astakona Hartono's Puspita Studios. Words and music by Colin Bass. This was made as an experimental demo record and later picked up by Sony Japan, who recorded a version with Filipina singer Maribeth in 1993/94. It was then used in Indonesia TV in an advert for Sony HiFis and became a surprise multi-million selling hit, making Maribeth famous across Asia.
