What Are You Listening to Now 7.0

Yes… Money!

Thanks. It’s stuck in my head now.

My personal favorite rock/pop song in an odd time signature is "I Should Live In Salt" by The National:

I sussed this out as being in 17/8, but I just learned from my tabs 'n chords app that the "official" version (mostly) alternates 9/8 and 8/8 measures.

Note that this lead track on their excellent Trouble Will Find Me album is followed immediately by "Demons", which is 7/4 (and not mentioned in the article I linked):

The Australian entry to Eurovision this year... sex and milkshakes. Loving it.

"Money" by Pink Floyd would be the best known one, I think. "Solsbury Hill" by Peter Gabriel. "Paranoid Android" by Radiohead has some 7/4, I think.
There'll be some Led Zep in there, I reckon, with 7/4.

Meanwhile, Lucinda Williams Car Wheels on a Gravel Road is up loud in the headphones. The crackle in her voice... damn!

Lloyd Cole - Broken Record

This album and  Standards are on almost permanent rotation.

Red Fang. Found them again due to nothing more than proximity to what I'd been listening to before (Steely Dan).

I rediscovered their first album today and found two especial tracks that I hadn't noticed before:

1. Humans Remain Human Remains
2. Whales And Leeches

Finding a live version of #1 is tough, but I found one that I'll annotate:

"Wires" starts at 11:24. I've linked the official video here before (see the "low-budget" link below).
"Humans Remain Human Remains" starts at 20:51. As far as I can tell, it's in 15/4 after the intro. The album version, at least, is effing hypnotic.
"Prehistoric Dog" at 30:37 is worth a listen, but I seem to remember more than one better rendition, including the album version (see the "low-budget" link below).

I have not succeeded in finding a live version of #2, so the album version will have to suffice. It doesn't help that they gave a subsequent album the same name even though it did not include the song of that name:

It doesn't hurt that their low-budget videos are funny as hell.

My cans are on, turned up all the way, and it still won't be loud enough until my head explodes (which it won't, thank goodness).

Gonna have to review their catalog again.

Dammit, now I'm out of beer.

After a conversation with @PennyThompson about surround sound and multi-modal experiences.... "Pigs (3 different ones)", complete with flying pig. Original was on Pink Floyd's "Animals", now available in Dolby Atmos [tm].
