What are we all writing right now?

Just before Memorial Day, I had an idea to write a story as a tribute to a deceased old friend of mine. I intended it to be a quick, maybe 5K words story, to publish on or just after Memorial Day.

But other ideas and memories of other friends or scenes intervened and took over!

It's finally done (well, done enough for me), at 25K words, and is approved to publish on 7/12/2025!

Coming soon in Loving Wives: "A Band of Sisters and Brothers" "To we few, we happy few, we Band of Brothers!"

In a slump with my country radio dj story (plot keeps eluding me and the MC doesn't follow orders), I got an idea for an NYPD officer who takes in an ex-con mother of one as a roommate. Slow romance ensues. I'm an idiot because I know nothing about police work or NYPD or child protective services. But fuck it, I'm writing it anyway. To the researchmobile!

Many, many years ago, in the early seasons of COPS, there was an episode in Seattle or a nearby city, maybe Portland. The officer stopped and talked to a young hooker. From what you could see on screen, she seemed like a highly attractive girl that got caught up in a bad situation. I imagined myself as part of the COPS ride-along team that offered to take her in and give her a new start.

Never put a story to it though.

I'm trying to write, but I just can't focus, because whenever I start writing on one of my WIP the other two start clamoring for attention. I've got a merman who has just escaped an abusive situation, some werejaguars who don't know wtf is going on, and a bunch of frisky orcs with a society to change. And they're all loud tonight.

Started my third attempt at a story for the Crime and Punishment event. The previous two attempts stalled in the first act. This one is shorter, has only two characters, and a simpler story line. If I can kick this one out in a week, I may have time to revisit one of my earlier attempts.

I'm about 3k into my Summer Lovin' story, and also started on part 5 of my ongoing series.

My latest story posted to Loving Wives, "A Band of Sisters and Brothers" on July 12th. That was six weeks in the making for 25K words, and it's not doing bad at 3.02/172.

Now I've just been inspired for my next story with the thread by @StillStunned for "Writing Exercise: The Break-Up".

I quickly wrote a 354-word post for that this morning. I think I'll take that and run with it to make a full 5-10K word story.

Beginning to sketch out the central story in my Community Pool anthology series - tentatively “Harry’s Story.” Likely a longer piece than I have posted here to date, but early days.

Having too much trouble typing even simple stuff like forum posts to try digging into a story.

Need to polish one up too, but the fingers and eyes just aren't working together.

I'm working on a story set on Victoria's Mornington Peninsula (south of Melbourne, Australia) in the 1970s, a bit before my time. Much to my delight, I've found that AC/DC played a show at the small local hall in early 1976, so I'm taking a deep dive into what they looked and sounded like at the time. Next research topic will be the cars of the era.

Went back to a story I started last year, set in Kenya. About 4k words written so far, but I have a feeling it's going to be a long one. I really, really want to avoid it becoming a "white saviour" story, but as it'll involve a fake marriage to get a UK visa I'll have to tread carefully in order to dodge that cliché.

There are a sufficient number of non-white UK citizens that you could 'recast' the part if it concerns you too much.

Unless your arranged marriage is to one of the (presumed) hundreds of duchesses they have rolling around, perhaps. 😇

True. But I wanted to use existing characters who are white as part of their redemption arcs. However, the pov character will be mixed-race...

Oh! So you're going to have to make the character's arc sufficiently noble to be redemptive but also sufficiently- I dunno, transactional?- to avoid seeming heroic or selfless.
Yeah, you've written yourself into a 🥒.

I just finally finished the long simmering story I plan to submit for Summer Lovin. I've been working on it for far longer than I planned to, and it's far longer than I had any intention of making it -- over 23,000 words. I'll set it aside for a little while and then give it another readthrough before the contest starts, but I think any revisions at this point will be on the sentence level.

It's a good feeling. It's been a very long time since I finished anything. And a very long time since I got to open up a fresh document and start something new. I can't wait.

I'm about 80% finished with a story about a public librarian who struggles with professional burnout, has a bit of a queer awakening, tries to rekindle joy in her work, and hits the gym with her crush!

It's going to be the longest and most plot-heavy story I've written by a healthy margin... Still under 10k words though, which is about the limit of my attention span 😅

I'm really happy with how it's shaping up, and I can't wait for people to read it!

Sounds like there's room for a few thousand more words of sex that doesn't need to drive the plot along then :) Looking forward to reading this one.

A few months ago, I gleefully reported here that I had finally completed a story that had been in the WIP folder for over 3 years, my last unfinished story at that time.

I have written a few and published them since then. But...I now have 4 open stories again, although to be fair, one of them is an entry into Summer Lovin' event, and it just needs a final edit and then the date of that event to arrive.

I don't know how this happens! Why can't we finish a story before we move on, instead of having open stories collecting dust in the WIP folder?

I am writing and brainstorming ideas for a new story about my original superheroine. I want her to have sexual encounters with new villains in her city and new conflicts.
