I'm new today, and have been, perhaps, too
enthusiastic (posting, without waiting to under-
stand the natural gists (spirit) existing here.

For that I am a bit fearful-- standing to the more
reserved posters who know what pitfalls such ado-
lescent butt-ins await. I did not allow myself a cool-
ing off to learn 'ways and means.'

There's a reason for my being impulsive-- I am 80
years old, truly an old-timing man in the December
of my life, more infirm than firm and one without
fish to fry or bones to pick. I hope to find friends
and pleasant company.

I write poetry and short prose pieces.

Welcome, old-timer!

Is English your second language, perhaps? I like the way you construct your sentences.

Stella

" ... the kindness of strangers."

No, English is my first. I am old school, deliberate
Ciceronian style, balance and antithesis.

Thank you for the reply. My isolation is soothed
by kind words.

Can't stand 95% of poetry.

But odds are you wouldn't like my crap either.

Welcome to AH :D

Looking forward to your next 20+ years of writing. 80 is the new 60, or something like that. Welcome!

That's because 95% of that crap you can't stand, is crap.

People think they can write a bunch of sentences, hit the 'return' key randomly and they have a poem.

Verse Libre isn't that easy-- as our Pentametric new friend can tell you. ;)

(I fight a losing battle with the Sonnet form, myself)

I am indeed welcomed, and I leave you
(but not for long for where am I to go?)
with this--

Wordsworth, seeing a robin chasing a
butterfly, calls out,

"Love her or leave her alone."

I think lunch was the option the robin had in mind.

A welcome  for the little newbie from the good little witch.

Have no fear, Henchman, you're here!

(Damn, that was corny.)

Welcome aboard.

LOL ...

Better a queen's carnation than lichen on a rock ...

You, sir, are my new hero. That was a fabulous line.

Hiya, Hench. Welcome aboard. I see we share the same last numbers. :D

There's a bunch of nice folks here in the AH and a few trolls, but you'll spot them soon enough. Just ignore them; they thrive on controversy and attention. There's also a little device called the Ignore button (or Iggy for short) that will block any persons posts that you know will annoy you.

Rack up 100 posts and you can put up your own avatar and greeting. Going on threads like Last Person Who Posts Wins, The Naked Party, The Post Office, Word Chains Game, What Are You Listening To Now and the like will enable you to lay down a lot of posts quickly.

Have fun and when you post a story or a poem, tell us in a thread so we don't have to go looking for it. We're lazy that way.

Have fun. ;)

Welcome to the authors' board, all sorts here.
Highly intelligent trolls, kind Texans
Fairy godmothers to kiss you, and friends
Who flirt (naming no names :D). Have lots of fun!

Guess that's my due to say "welcome," too...

Welcome. :)
