Do you like humor in erotic stories?
Do authors plan for inserting humor in their stories?
Or do they forget because of a focus on erotica?
Have you found humor in a story, and liked it?
Have you found humor in a story, and not liked it?

You may want to look through Lit's 'Humor and Satire' story collection here: http://www.literotica.com/c/adult-humor/1-page

I have written in this category and liked it. :D

When you look at it closely, the elements of the sex act reflect nature's jokes on humans.

I do write humor into some of my stories. Only some readers seem to either get that or appreciate it. I think the Humor category here is one of the least populated categories--which a relatively low rating average.

Also, readers don't seem to get that the category here is Humor and Satire and that the two aren't the same thing. I've written some satires where someone comments that they didn't find it funny.

Much like the "taboo" part of Incest/Taboo isn't on the radar of the categories readers, the same applies to the "satire" part of Humor & Satire.

A few readers in both categories will appreciate stories that meet the secondary part of the category title, but most are going to throw tomatoes at you and tell you it's wrong.

The readers define the categories as much as the website does, and they're even less open to suggestions than the site :p

"Satire is what closes on Saturday night." George S. Kaufman ;)

As to the subject of the thread -- almost all of my Humor & Satire stories have actually been my LST3Ks, which are stories that tried to be serious, but I'm making fun of them. The humor isn't in the story, but my commentary.

One in the category is a story that aims at humor - http://www.literotica.com/s/last-chance-5

While one I put in NonHuman is aiming for giggles through most of it - http://www.literotica.com/s/ghost-of-a-chance-2

FWIW, there isn't enough humor in Lit stories. Humor is a great hook. Readers need humor because life can really suck at times and reading is a way to zone out from the everyday and sometimes depressing issues one is dealing with. Sometimes, readers just need a good laugh, even in a porn story. I got hooked in the Sookie Stackhouse books when I was going through radiation. Elvis as a vampire, and the author's description of it, kept me laughing. :) I quit reading the books when the author stopped with the humor, after Trueblood started.

LOL - too true. I just posted a satirical parody of many loving wives tales call Yes, I'm the Asshole. I don't think anyone has realized it is satire. Some see the humor in it, but the main point is lost on everyone. Kind of sad.

Humor/Satire is viewed as humor only. You only have to look at the comments on my story to see that. Perhaps next time I'll write that it's a satire in the introduction, but unfortunately the majority of the readers will still not understand what that means.

I didn't realize it was posted. To the comment about overusing the "I'm the asshole" line- I thought it gave the story a Rodney Dangerfield tone- like "I don't get no respect." I thought it worked well.

All my stories here have a little humor in them. I don't do write it in erotica on purpose, it just happens.

My wife and I have had several conversations about the way sex acts are portrayed in media, such as erotica and porn, and the reality of it. What you practically never read or see are the ridiculous faces, the strange comments, the comical noises that are routinely part of sex. For instance, without fail, whenever I go down on my wife after she's had a shower, I end up pulling a few stray hairs from my mouth which had become trapped in her vagina. It's just what happens. But do we write that into a scene? No.

Sex in it's reality is actually pretty funny. We do and say and think things that make us giggle, snort and all-out laugh. But when it comes to writing about it, we take out the parts that detract from the erotic nature of sex, and porn editors clip out such things as the inadvertent passing of gas, the stupid faces the actors make, and the occasional falling off the bed.

Including those elements in a story could work extremely well, I think, so long as the reader had reason to expect it (such as by posting the story in H&S). I think such stories would do pretty well, because they mirror the reality of what sex is.

As far as humorous content in general in an erotic story, I've seen it hit and miss. There is one story on this site that I stumbled upon by accident. I don't remember the author off hand, but the story, I believe, is called "Natural Male Enhancement." Parts of it scream juvenile (it takes place in a high school, and there's some obvious indication that some of the secondary characters are juvenile in mind if not in body despite stating that all characters are 18 plus in age), but there really is some clever wording and a few scenes that are comical yet also erotic.

I don't know that I often put the humor in the sex scenes, but I usually work some humor into my stories at some point. It's just how life is -- funny things happen. I don't go for big, thigh-slapping laughs, just something I hope will make people smile.

It's like Steve Martin said -- Death is easy. Comedy is hard.

Comedy is like everything else, if youre borned to it its easy, like swatting fastballs outta the park. Its mostly clever irony.

I write some humor into almost all of my stories--not enough to land them in the Humor/Satire section, but enough to lighten the mood when necessary. My latest story was heavy on the Satire, however, and could easily have been filed in that category. Strangely, the story I am currently working on has not a speck of humor in it. I should probably address that in the next draft.

The sex act itself is serious business and a giggly girl is a major mood-killer in my book (the only type that's worse is the girl who insists on telling you all about her day while having sex).

But the events surrounding sex or resulting from it can certainly lend itself to comedy. Whether or not I use it in a story depends entirely on the characters though.

I try to keep my stories happy and light since writing erotica is my fun time writing. Sometimes the humor works and sometimes it don't, just like in real life.

It depends on the genre of story. In a BDSM story for example it could be said to ruin the mood. But if it's a more lighthearted vanilla story, why not drop a touch of humour in it? When I have vanilla sex with a girlfriend we often laugh and smile during it. It's a happy time after all. Only if there's power play involved does it go into SRS BUSINESS mode.

Thanks for the comments to this topic.
My intention was not to suggest introducing humor during sex, but within the story -- anywhere.
As many here have mentioned, humor happens, and I think we should include bits of it sprinkled in our stories.
I think it mkaes the characters more human and the story a better read.
If you come across a story with some good humor in it -- post the title in here for all to see.

Thanks -- happy typing and reading...

PS -- My first story, first chapter, is now posted -- Bound To Heal.
Chapter 1 is void of humor in order to set the story, but there is some in chapter 2 which should be posted soon.

There's a whole category for humor here. Search in this for stories you might like to read or keyword search "humor" in the tags for stories including humor as a tertiary element. You should be able to find a whole bunch of stories and decide for yourself--objectively--which ones to read.

I don't search on tags, but others do. If you need guidance on that, I'm sure someone here will help.

And the one worse than her is the one who tells you about her day during sex, then says, "Well honey, I need to get off the phone now."

I don't mind humor in my erotica, as long as it's subtle. Unless I'm reading Humor, I don't mind the occasional bon mot or witticism, but a knee-slapper will jar me a bit.
