So we drove up to my parents place. The drive up was okay. No excitement.
There place came through without damage for the most part. No water got inside either from the blown rain or the flooding. No wind damage to speak of.
Their A/C was sitting in water though. The ducting was still filled with water. I got that drained out. (Talk about a nasty job.) The compressor is now dry and works just fine. (I tested it before shutting it down again.)
Their neighbor had already opened up their car, vacuumed out the water and had it sitting in the sun with the windows open for the past couple of days so it was good and dry. I fired it up and drove it around a bit to clean out the exhaust and clean off the brakes. (Talk about noisy brakes for the first few stops.)
My mother has a storage locker on their patio. I opened that up and removed everything. Everything that was wet was laoded into our car and brought back with us for salvaging. We're talking all of her old Christmas Ornaments and some of her leather working tools. There was also a cardboard box filled with leather and some more tools as well as patterns. I'll see what can be salvaged from that. (I'm thinking the leather may be ruined but we'll see.)
All in all they lucked out on this one. Several of their neighbors didn't. I saw one trailer with the water line about six inches above the skirting. That means the water got inside. That also means that they will have to replace all of the flooring including the sub-flooring. A long job.
When I called my parents from their place and gave them the news they were relieved. My mother didn't believe that we were bringing her things back with us to clean them up and salvage them. Just as my father was surprised that we were loading up a lot of his tools to see if I can slavage them.
What the hell, as I told them it's a thing called family.
