Hi, I'm a illustrator in NYC. I'm finishing up my new web site and it have some erotic art that use a lot of religious symbols in it. Now I'm concerned because I know that some people don't want anything that even look like porn even if they're just only drawings or paintings. I want to see what's your opinion on putting up your site and keeping it up.

Any takers?

I think it's a good idea. I also think you can look into erotic book covers. I was at renessaince's website and looking at their ebook covers. A friend of mine said this, and I agree with her, those covers SUCK!!!!!

Something that's erotic without being pornographic so that you don't feel like the slut from hell at the register in Barnes and Noble or something, those are needed! How to get into this, I have no idea.

If you really want to put the pictures up then make it optional for the visitors by clicking a yes or no question. If you just bring it out without any go ahead from the visitors they may be upset.

I have an erotica section on my website. before the visitor actually gets to that page I have a warning notice.. describing, in part, what they are about to see.. and giving them the option of going back to the home page if they feel they may be offended... I suppose it has worked thus far.. i haven't gotten any negative feedback

First make sure that the web host allows adult content. OK, so it might sound obvious but you'd be suprised how many good websites lose there hosting because they didn't read the terms and conditions set by the hosts. Just saying," but it is art" won't satisfy them in most cases and they will just terminate the account.

Second, warn your visitors about the content. A disclaimer is often a good idea ie: This website contains material of an adult nature, if you are under the age bla bla bla. Something along those lines. Give them the option to exit if they so wish at this point. It covers your arse as well to a degree, as it puts the onus on them rather than you.

There isn't a lot else you can do after that to be honest.
Hope the above helps.

Just remember...

...when it comes to erotica there are only two kinds of people. Those who are interested and admit it and those who are interested and don't admit it. If someone comes to your site and is offended one has to ask "what were they looking for in the first place?"
