Trump said his brother, who was eight years his senior, helped "guide" him away, sparing him the pain he saw his friends go through as they struggled with alcohol over the years. He suggested that same advice could help stem the spread of opioid addiction in the United States too. "The fact is, if we can teach young people and people generally not to start [taking drugs], it's really, really easy not to take them," Trump said. Trump emphasized the importance of a "really tough, really big, really great advertising" campaign to help spread more awareness, adding: "There is nothing desirable about drugs. They're bad."

I think that is a great idea. Maybe something like "Just Say NO!" or D.A.R.E. which have been around since the 80s?

Maybe there are some old films of Nancy Reagans' pleas that would go down well with teenagers.

We know what prohibitions and drug wars produce:

* Low-quality adulterated crap that poisons people
* Mafiyas waging wars -- till they merge into cartels
* Crooked cops, judges, politicians, troops -- everyone's bought
* General popular disregard for rule of law, good gov't, social order, etc
* Plato o plombo persuasion, silver or lead: take the bribe or we kill you, your family, etc
* Massive flows of untracked cash linked to terrorism, slavery, kleptocrats, etc
* Bloated prison systems where fresh convicts learn new tricks

You want people to not self-medicate? Forget slogans. Grow a society with better options available. If you have no hope, no chance, why bother surviving?

Yes, Trump is so smart about addiction. He'll fix that problem in America, also. Everything sure has been great since he took over.

I just need some sort of drug to help me sleep at night...

Stay Straight, Don't Opiate.
Be a man; skip the heroin / vicodin.
No more fentanyl unless you're ill.
No paregoric unless you're sick.
Ice cream, not morphine / codeine.
Don't be an ass -- stick to grass.

1. How about not nominating someone for "Drug Czar" who has actively worked to make it easier to ship drugs into the country:

News in Washington this morning - Tom Marino, President Trump's nominee to be the next federal drug czar, has withdrawn his name from consideration. This is according to a tweet from the president this morning. The Republican congressman came under fire after a joint Washington Post-"60 Minutes" report revealed that Marino has deep ties to the drug industry. He championed a bill that made it harder to act against drug companies suspected of flooding the market with narcotics.

Smart Move, Orange Asshole! Why, that will help a lot!

2. How about cracking down on Opiates coming into the country through the US Mail from China, instead of--wait for it--"spending more money" on building a useless wall?

Hey, Orange Fuckhead, OPIATES ARE NOT COMING FROM MEXICO.

3.How about NOT sabotaging Obamacare, which covers rehab?

4. Instead of "spending money" on a useless Just Say No Ad campaign ($100 mill--not free, you dumb shit), use that money to hire more DEA agents.

Waiting for some suggestions from the experts on this board. C'mon...hit us with your knowledge!

I know. I know.... We should just spend more money.

"There is nothing desirable about drugs. They're bad."

Umm ... if there really was nothing desirable about drugs, people wouldn't bother in the first place. I don't think he's been very well informed about the whole situation.

People and other animals have been getting high for a long, long time. Some blame psychedelics for the rise of human intelligence.

Hint: If you don't want your fellow residents getting wasted, grow a world where they won't feel a NEED to get wasted.

In general, I favor this, but the reality is that some people want to get wasted. Life conditions that stimulate some people to go out and get things done lead others to use a lot of drugs. I think the latter should be a legal option too.

Much as with sex ed, it would be a better world if we were actually able to provide drug education that wasn't simply abstinence based.
