Including the kennel, there are four in the room we lock them in at night (after all, they are Devil Dawgs, they give badgers nightmares) and then the Queen and Princess demand they each have one in the living room.

;)

I have to share a bed.

I tell you, *collar tug*, I get no respect...

All appears to be as it should be.

edit: except the bit about share, that still seems a bit wrong.

When I saw the thread title I assumed this was going to be a scathing indictment of the American healthcare system.

Oh well.

Have you seen the numbers on what we will spend on our pets?

Our hellhounds are going in for another round of six-month maintenance and that stuff ain't cheep!

I don't even own plants, so I would probably believe whatever numbers you tell me. Besides, folks who would dress animals in clothes are not likely to skip on legit vet costs.

Nor should you. ;) May yours live long and run free.

:

$40 a year covers heartworm for up to 30 dogs. Unless you have collies - then you're fooked and stuck with heartgard.

$90 a year covers whipworm, roundworm and hookworm, most tapeworm, Giarida, and more for dozens of dogs

$10 per animal covers distemper and lepto.

Rabies is $20 each, can't help that one, most states require that it is done by a Vet to get the certificate.

Nothing lives and runs free here.

;)

After much loss, even our free-range chickens get locked up at night in something that resembles Fort Leavenworth...

We're from KANSAS.

You lost me at $10... :D

I'm disappointed… I thought that any respectable pet owner shared their bed with them.
They make good water bottles during winter, too…

That is my one iron law as the only male thing in my home (except the fish, they keep breeding), no dawgs on beds or furniture.

;)

They are unclean beasts. They kill and eat things in the forest...

true…
But that's also what my dad said, when we got our first dog. Then fastforward one year: whenever my dog had a disturbed stomach and we were watching TV, if my dad dared to complain, my mother would cut him short & ask him (my dad, not the dog) to step out until the air was cleared to his liking.

The Queen washed two of them yesterday and the mini-dachs freaked out when shoe could not find hers.

;)

Hers are the beds with the blankets. She will not sleep if she does not have something to burrow under.

The Basset makes do with the cat's bed and all the cast-offs in her crate. She has my old mattress cover. I never did like it, and when it developed a hole, to the hound it went. She loves it and sleeps under it so it looks like no Short-n-Low is in the crate at all.

One of mine is currently asleep on the cold hard floor infront of the just lit stove. Next to his bed. That he has a bed makes me feel better. The other is a long dog....abrasin leads to skin sores....and she has had a slipped disc, many get arthritis. A good bed is not really a big thing, and looks nicer and is easier to keep clean ( vacuum between washes) than am style vet beds and old blankets on a palate. ( incidentally, we made our own bed base out of palates:rolleyes:).

I also throw cotton quilts over top of my bed because little dog hops up through the night, and the other dog when i have a siesta.. The quilts go through the wash weekly.

When i think about it, my whole house is a dog or cat bed constantly being cleaned.

So cute! What sort of dogs do you have? (what breed)

I always shared my quarters with them. They're part of the family, aren't they?

Now let's talk about 7 fucking horses-------Oh, and don't forget the farrier. Thank God and Greyhound they're all gone.

Ishmael

Fucking vet bill for almost $400 yesterday...

... and the Queen is already mulling what she wants as a replacement dog.
