I'm certain the natural fragrance remains.

And isn't THIS a delightful threadjack on one of ami's playgrounds!

:D

It's a forgiveable threadjack, since it reinforces the civility and humor I was trying to restore by starting it. :D

A couple of these folks have been around for a while, I call them part of the “Usual Suspects” The last two are kinda newbies, interlopers, as it were, but card carrying nonetheless.

These folks are mainly left wing liberal ideologists and, ‘proud of it!’ They, in harmony criticize everything they don’t agree with, but never firmly come out in defensible support of anything, for fear of being identified as having a philosophy or an ethical system to hinder the blustering.

They don’t like America, they really don’t like Capitalism, they detest Bush, father and son(offspring and siblings included) and Republicans in general, conservatives in specific. Worse even than the Clinton critics, they find fault with ‘dubya’s very existence.

They, in general, (the usual suspects, a clannish group) have not the courage to be identified as the prissy café’ socialists they are, even though two generations removed, they still bask is the left-over glory of H.L. Mencken, F. Scott Fitzgerald,, Upton Sinclair and who was that queer one in the 20’s they always quote? The name escapes me at the moment.

Their art is always abstract, their music always undefined, their tastes always Bohemian. Their interests always catholic even though they are non believers, they never ‘fess up to it.

Their ethics and morals are non existent and they stumble and fumble and nervously edge away from any point of view that might tie them down to a premise of any sort, preferring to remain mobile in their beliefs and relationships.

They never ‘hate’ anything, (they might be in error) so, Hitler is fine, dictatorships in general are fine, (as long as the left are pampered). Drugs are fine, prostitution is fine, group sex is fine(any variety).

They are safe and secure in their undefined and nebulous universe of uncertainty, wafting about like vapor clouds filled with radioactive fallout, contaminating everything they touch.

They will corrupt your institutions and your children with their rejection of all that is traditional and conventional and lecture you endlessly on why you should be liberal and tolerant of all things and all ideas.

They hate individualism and favor the collective and will sacrifice your life and body at the snap of a finger for the perceived ‘common good’ of the proletariat, unless it means giving up that last jigger of absinthe, then they whine.

Clamorous carnivorous chasms is almost as good as ‘silly slits’, which came to me in an epiphany of alliteration as I was penning something or other. I should be so lucky to coin catching catechisms such as that more often.

Amicus….(I wonder should I copyright that?)

That's a new one! I don't think that I've ever been called a "left-wing, liberal ideologue" before. Never mind that I am a self-proclaimed centrist-Libertarian.

And I am surprised to be told that I hate America, when I was kept out of the Navy only by my bad health (and not for lack of trying). And that I hate the Bushes. I am sure that the Bushes, father and son, are nice people. I was too young to vote for the elder Bush during either of his campaigns, but I have voted Republican consistently in 3 Presidential elections (1996, 2000, 2004). My rejection of the GOP is relatively recent, as you can see. Hell, I was a College Republican and worked for the Arizona Republican Party.

Frankly, I am just a pagan, centrist-Libertarian, disenchanted lifelong Republican. My disillusionment was complete as of last year. 2004 was Bush's last chance to hold my support in any sense. Since then, he has violated my trust and any remaining respect that I have for him as a public official. To dismissed as an "interloper", a "left-wing, liberal ideologue", or a "Usual Suspect" is rather flawed, inaccurate, and insulting. But I don't care. I tried to show amicus some civility. One only has to have one's hand bitten a couple of times to realize that the grizzly bear shouldn't be fed. Enough is enough. I still don't hate him, but I have lost what grudging respect I had for him as a thinker and a politically conscientious citizen.

And to say that I hate individualism, while condemning people for being themselves, is frankly laughable.

I have tried and tried and tried again to pronounce 'Ylang, Ylang', sighs, but I just can't get my tongue around the word. I can do dooalang, dooalang, lang (from 'He's so fine'), just fine, thank you, but Ylang, Ylang, nope, can't get it.

Try saying it out loud, see what your tongue does.

I think I hurt myself.

amicus...

If I say it right- and against the right places- and in the right rhythm- I bet I could make you pretty happy! ;)

In attempting to get my tongue to say the word and noticing the motion, I was tempted to say a similar thing, but was too much of a gentleman to do so.

alas, alack, woe is me...

I still find it funny that people invoke a "tradition" that is 150 years old. Never mind that there were traditions before that, traditions that might have had as much or more validity.
