Way back in the day there was a long long thread on the GB, all about Bdsm. And another one on the How To. And people asked Laurel can we have a Bdsm forum.

And there it was.

So there was Cymbidia and Risia Skye and Writer Dom and they were the first Mods. And the kinksters come over from the other forums and populated the place.

After a while my best friend James Blandings came and he became one of the mods as well. And he invited yours truly, which maybe wasn't everybody's idea of a great notion, but that's not the point of the story.

Everything wasn't copacetic though. You might call it growing pains. Or you could call it one big fucking flame war if you wanted to be straight up about it.

JB headed off to kink Valhalla a little while back and I been going through and reading lots of those old threads. Reading what he wrote because I can't hear his voice anymore, ya know?

It was a trip reading that old stuff. I would be nodding my head at something someone said, going yep, good point, and then on the next page, oops there's me telling them they are full of shit. Hahaha.

See, all those fights were about people having ideas about what this place ought to be. Yeah, there were a few knucklefuckers who just came to bust the windows and paint on the walls, but only a few. People fought because people cared so much.

Now I'm looking around and it's 12 years later and there are more than a million posts on the board and lots of cool people have come and gone and every day there is information being given and people being helped and people having laughs and I think if JB was here he'd look around and be pretty happy and Cym and Risia and all the old timers, wherever they are, would be goddamn proud of what they built here.

And all of you that are part of it ought to be pretty fucking proud too.

Keep on rockin in the kink world.

It's a good forum, yeah you get your asshats and your occasional troll, but at the core of it lies a community, an international one at that.
Here is the safe and comfortable place, compared to the "in your face" persona of fetlife.

I am sorry you have lost your best friend. I didn't know him, but he sounds like a good bloke. *big hugs*

"People fought because people cared so much."

Pure gold.

You have to hope people still care... Somewhere out there... In the dark.

I miss cymbidia and Risia Skye. They are lovely people. :)

I've only been here for about 7 years. Thank you to those who started this forum and also to those who are here now.

I may post more often on Fet but Lit will always be my internet home. I feel safe and welcomed here. People know me--both my triumphs and struggles with TTTWD.

No, nobody cares.

That's why we come back day after day to answer newbie's questions, share tips, techniques and brag-- because we don't care.

Yes, MzChrista, I remember those days. it was still all good.
Hell, I've been here so long I can't even remember when I started. Lots of good memories.

It wouldn't be the net without trolls I guess.

Yeah, JB was a good bloke all right. One time I got detained at the Ambassador Bridge by Canadian customs trying to cross the border with my toy bag. They said I had weapons. So they searched my car and fucked it up so I couldn't drive it. 2 in the morning I called JB. "Yo dude, come get me at the bridge." All he asked was "which side?"

Like Cheers, but with nipple clamps.

Yeah I guess it's easier to remember bad times than good . I think in the last week I read just about everything that was posted her I the first year or so. The good stuff way outnumbered the bad.

Glad there are still some oldies around.

The mother thread is still here, somewhere. I remember in the beginning, when people were trying to get Laurel to start a BDSM forum. The whole idea of starting a BDSM forum was to give people somewhere to ask questions about things, and to pick the brains of the regulars, because they had already been through what they were going through.

It was finally started, but after a short time, the serious stuff was always getting cluttered with the riff-raff posts of people just coming to have a good time. You couldn't condemn people for wanting to have fun, but it started causing a problem. People sometimes have trouble getting up the nerve to post a question, and when there were so many other threads in the way, some decided not to bother.

So, the cafe was started, and everybody that wanted to come and just have fun were suppose to post in the cafe, leaving the main forum for the serious stuff. For the most part, it has worked. We still have people come post threads in the main forum that shouldn't be there, and we still get snarky with them for doing it. Some understand, and some think it's a bit much that we complain so.

But, the rules are there for everybody to read. You just have to take the time to read them. We don't have many rules, so it's sometimes difficult to understand when people don't read them. But, I'd say 99% of the new posters understand and also appreciate what we try to do. There's only a few trolls out there, and there's also those just looking for somebody to piss off to pass the time. Those threads are interesting to watch.:D

Yeah the amount of fluff was an issue in the beginning. Same thing when the GLBT board started. If I was JB or Risia I would give out some big spiel about the noise to static ratio or whatnot.

But what the Mods thought back then was that a certain amount of fluff was needed in order to make people feel comfortable enough to discuss the serious stuff.

That makes sense to me, but since it looks like most people jump back and forth, the two boards makes sense too. I personally wouldn't get too bent out of shape if I thought such and such thread belonged more on one than the other.

That is an amazing thread. :rose: With your permission, I would like to bump it to the front page. Every word of it is just as fresh and insightful as the day it was written.

It belong to you as much as it does to me. Know what I mean?

Really this is a great thread for people

Who are unsure or are questioning where they fit! It's a must read for all newbies.i am not new however that being said I never stop learning about this wonderful bdsm world and know I'm a better Domme/sub bottom/top because of it. I've also found that the people I've talked to for the most part especially here in Bdsm talk are extremely knowledgable and are happy to share their knowledge. I'm thankful for all you who share with all of us!!
