I have little experience in this what i have seen to be an art form type of play on occasion, but was wondering if those of you more experienced than i would care to comment as to what people should know, safety, any form of implements used with wax for differing sensations other than knives, etc?

i have had wax play maybe two times at best in the last 10 years, thus my inquiry and interest because i did find it rather pleasing :rose:

I always forget about wax, in a way -- it's one of those things that's so much fun, but never really leaps to mind. Hm, I think you just answered my mondy night blahs problem with this question. :)
Oooh, I'm glad you put that up... I was actually just looking for information on that. Is that a reliable site for other kinks as well?

Thank you for these links.

I have no idea if I would like the reality of wax play, but I like idea of it.

The few pics I have seen of various colours exploding onto skin makes it look like a Piscasso gone mad

As to my experiences Wax is definitely interesting but my advise to you is that you should read as much as you possibly can on the subject and go very very slowly, I myself can only take so much of it. But you know you have to get used to somethings.

Pain is another thing... That damn paddle is one thing that still scares me.

Thanks Cherry :)

I plan to just lay there, he can do all the reading & going slowly stuff...after all he is in charge ;)

I never used to like pain, in fact I hated it.
But things change, I have been known to beg for it at times

I am still a long way off being a pain slut though lol

I was all for pain until he made the paddle.... or as we like to call it the *ahem* "Board of Education". About a footlong made of inch and half wood with holes drilled through and painted black.... Gah...

smiles, thank you for the links, now how about personal experiences?

I recall once going to a European website a few years back and they showed quite the contraption for waxing .. looked like a heavy duty torture and yet .. grins . was erotic.

i wish i could remember the site and / or saved the pics bc it was rather unique. It looked like an apparatus that hand candles lit all the way down the persons body one either side . .staggered so that if you turned them to drip on the person . they would not get in each others way .. i can only imagine the heat of it first of all .. but it was rather interesting to see

My favorite resource for this. And as wax play is one of my favorites, I'm partial to being safe with it. I'm not into knife play at all, but having a very dull knife handy to scrape the wax off can be kinda hot, too.

I volunteered once to be the guinea pig at the dungeon for a Domme who was demonstrating. She had the coolest setup. You know those cheap, religious candles that you can get in the supermarket? Tall, slender glasses, sometimes with religious pictures on them? She filled a large crock pot with hot water and turn it on high, stood about 8 of these inside of it and lit them. By the time she was ready to play, the bottom part of the glasses that were under water had all melted and the top was melted down quite a bit. She just stuck a knife through the remaining hardened wax and basically emptied the glass jars on me. Slowly. Wow.

Just a quick aside - tea lights can burn extremely hot. If you use them, use them AFTER you have a good base of something else first and be sure to pour from a greater height. They sting/burn like a bitch if you don't.

This is a very sexy story - didn't know that you could use those religious candles - re: safety, aren't beeswax candles a no no, as well?

I had a gf before I got herpes who would sometimes do wax play on me... Yang4yin, loved that site you linked to. The artistry is part of what interests me about this play - I definitely want to take a class to learn how to do it.

Has anyone ever used the candles they sell on some of the bdsm toy web sites?

The great thing about those religious candles is that they don't burn too hot, especially when you melt them the way she did, in the crock pot. (And they're very cheap!) And since they're so big, you can do quite a lot with them. I had never played with a woman before - and haven't since - but it was a very hot scene when it was happening.

Another recommendation - get a few cheap shower curtains from the dollar store and place those under the victim. Makes for much easier clean up. :D

Thanks for the additional info, particularly this last - excellent advice :D

it does, but one of the safety things i've read on just about every site says no colored candles, the dye burns hotter. Master and i played with wax twice, the first time it was awesome and i loved it, the second time i'm not sure what happend but i couldn't take the pain from it. i think honestly the first time i was deeper in 'sub space' but i'm not sure......

I think that is the major difference. I know the first time I had done scratching and other things first, and the second time I did the wax fairly early in the scene.

I must admit, I tried waxplay for the first time this weekend and couldn't take it. I've always had a phobia of burning, so I guess rushing into it so soon was a really stupid idea, because all I could think about was what it might be doing to my skin. I'd still like to try it again, but possibly in a few months time, when he and I are back living in the same town and I don't have to rush into it on one of our few weekends together.
It was my idea to try it though. Wow do I feel stupid now.

wax play is tough... i had attempted it once, but was unsure of myself. in lieu of attempting something that i was not comfortable with, i used ice... she was blindfolded so it worked... i melted it.. etc.. very hot, actually.

Paraffin candles are good. the kinda that burn at a lower temperature. Avoid colored candles, the darker the worse. ESPECIALLY avoid metallics or candles with any sort of glitter in them. I mean if oyu have a high pain tolerance sure go ahead try it, but i've heard horror stories of a metallic candle causing a scar.

The candles you can buy in large packs of 4 for shabbat.

like those.

You definitely want to be careful about colored candles. I wouldn't just run to Target and start buying up colored, scented candles for this. The religious candles I mentioned are colored, but the colors don't seem to burn any hotter than the non-colored ones. Definitely DO NOT use candles with glitter or other objects in them. They will scar the skin. Some people have told me they've even used the wax from those parafin baths that you can buy in department stores. Haven't tried that myself, but sounds like it would work great and give you a large amount of wax at one time.

As someone else noted above, you don't want to wax someone right after you've already done something to the skin. I was once waxed on my back just after a pretty intense flogging and my skin was very sensitive for several days afterward. The same works in reverse. If you've just finished a wax session, you probably don't want to be flogging the still sensitized skin.

One thing I've found for myself is that I can't watch the wax being poured onto my skin. Sends me into a fit of the giggles. I'm told this is an adrenaline sort of reaction. So I have to either have my head turned or be blind folded. And if I think much about the wax directly as it hits my skin, it burns. But if I let myself drift off into sub space without thinking directly about the wax, it makes a difference in the amount I'm able to take. And it makes your skin really soft when you're done. :)
