The stock is kind of skeevy from being an old fart, kinda like some of the cars that show up at the farm. The barrel band had taken a set, so it required Real Tools to get apart, unlike the spent cartridge case. And the butt plate was all but fused onto the back of the stock. I managed to get it off without fucking anything up.


A bit more involved than hanging a picture . . . .

I think that I shall mess with the carbine a bit today. Regular maintenance is necessary to insure proper function, and this 80 year old rifle has probably had a few decades of regular neglect.

You're quite right on the rifle identifications. My carbine is not pictured here for a multitude of reasons, and I had happened by a stock photo of carbine cousins, if you will.


Mine is a Winchester of fairly early manufacture, maybe 1942.


When I was shooting competitively, we had a guy at the range who, every time the subject of carbines came up, would say something about it's being underpowered. I made a similar comment to a Vietnam vet while discussing rifles and such, and he said, "Listen, back in '65, I shot Charlie in the head," pointing right above his own ear, "and he didn't say a word about it's being underpowered as he dropped like a sack of potatoes." It's no AR, but it's handy and effective.

i have a post war Baretta made m1 Garand made for the danish army. 1953 with danish army markings but manufacturing stamp from Baretta. I think they bought the tools and dies from Springfield maybe.

If it’s ever been fired, it was sparingly. Beautiful black walnut stock. I’ve actually never fired it.

Always wanted an m1 carbine. They are great looking weapons.

They are out there. And they are pricey. This one was bought without that consideration as an amends of a sort. Long story.

That’d be nice. I really like the paratrooper versions.

I got what I could when it was less expensive. And since the prices have risen, they turned out to be good investments.

Apparently, WW2 era rifle stock finishes had more ass to them than Vietnam era finishes. Either that or paint stripper is a pale imitation of what it was formerly. This project to strip this-here carbine stock may go more from Better Living Through Chemistry to the judicious application of elbow grease. More to be disclosed . . . .

I'm wagering that we have no fucking idea whatever if we're even enforcing what laws are on the books. Like when the prohibited people fill out a 4473 and lie on it, what happens? They need to get their fiver (or more if other things are ponied onto it) and let us know that we're prosecuting this stuff. A Zero Tolerance level would be a good place to start. Then talk to me about more laws/regulations if this isn't enough.


Funny, no one wants to discuss this.


Either way, confiscating my shit won't change the crime rates in the slightest.
