Went out and picked up some 55 gallon drums, two of which will become fire barrels. Which require holes. There could be drilling or a pick or an axe, so I just unloaded a couple of mags instead. "Killing" two birds with one stone, as it were.

A report from John R. Lott Jr., president of the Crime Prevention Research Center (CPRC), shows that from 2014 to 2022 armed citizens stopped active shooters eight times more often than the FBI claimed.

In the report, excerpts of which Lott published on Real Clear Politics, he noted, “Out of 440 active shooter incidents from 2014 to 2022, an armed citizen stopped 157. We also found that the FBI had misidentified five cases, usually because the person who stopped the attack was incorrectly identified as a security guard.”

He observed, “While the FBI claims that just 4.6% of active shootings were stopped by law-abiding citizens carrying guns, the percentage that I found was 35.7%. I am more confident that we have identified a higher share of recent cases, and our figure for 2022 was even higher – 41.3%.”

Despite Lott’s findings and the findings of CPRC, the FBI’s data has not been adjusted. Lott highlighted this by pointing to an email he received in 2015 in which the FBI admitted the Lott had uncovered an example they had missed of an armed citizen stopping an active shooter. Despite the admission, “the FBI database never added the incident.”

Gary Kleck did the seminal work on the subject back in the 90's. His work was attacked but never refuted. His methodolgy was bullet proof. John Lott did a follow on work, I believe it was "More Guns, Less Crime." Lott's factual statements were spot on but Lott committed the cardinal sin of equating coorelation with causation. In other words his conclusion was unsustainable no matter how compelling the coorelation was.

Regardless, from that work Lott has been forever relegated to being a 'crackpot' and as such has been wirtten off by any, and all, senior officials in the law enforcement community. Most particularly those in the federal establishment because he, and Kleck, called their public assertions into question.

That begs the question as to why they would do that? The easy answer would be, "it's all about politics" but that isn't entirely the case. The real answer is that crime equals money. The more crime, the bigger the various principals can grow their agencies. And this translates in to more money for them and more personal power. If politics can be used to achieve those goals, sobeit. It smooths the path to their goals. And that is phenomena is not restricted to the law enforcement heirarchy.

The bureaucracies have grown to the point that they are self-sustaining and self-feeding. They have grown to the point that our elected officials that are supposed to keep this in check are fearful of their own employees. This is an unsustainable state of affairs.

LMFAO

Crime is personal power and money to the bureaucrats... What next, you'll be saying Trump was the greatest President ever.

One might conclude that it behooves the FBI to under-report armed citizen crime deterrents to be able to demonstrate that guns are useless except as a tool for crime and therefore to prove their value to a government which has an agenda to disarm the civilian populace.

I have always wondered how many guns the Australian government did not get during their gun confiscation, and I'd wager that it was more than a few.

I'm enjoying watching the bureaucracy justify its existence with its new rules on my project. Kinda sanctified, really. It's costing me money, but this is a project and not a line in the sand, so Wat will simply pass the increased cost on to the customer. Kinda like a one-time kickback. At least the soldati won't be by every Friday for an envelope.

and the “truth” comes from…

Riiiiiiiiiiiight. Sure it does.

How many guys with guns in Uvalde? Those guys stopped and had time to order pizza while kids got killed.

What about down Parkland? That guy ran away.

Got those in your little database investigation? Probably not.

Back in the days of land lines it was inevitable that at least once a week some telemarketer or pollster would call during meal time. My preferred tactic was to say, "I've really want to talk to you but I have to turn the sprinkler off. Can you hold on for a minute?" They'd always say "Yes" so I'd put the phone down on a cushion and about my business then wait to see how long they'd hold on until they figured out I wasn't ever coming back.
That goes as an answer and puts you on more lists. All they want is for a live human to pick up the phone. Results don't matter when they go to market the list.

...
In their defense, they do report crime stats and not defense stats because they are not the Federal Bureau of Castles
(as in every man's home...).

It's the various communities around the nation that report the crimes to the FBI, so in a sense it's the old GIGO issue.

Or misreporting or non-reporting as the case warrants. I don't think it's rampant, but it does happen.

Those 1870s pants are flame-proof. That's what you have to wear in the hottest corner of Islamic Hell, where the fires burn hotter and Eternity lasts longer.

Like as not, the FBI was proper-fucked beyond reclamation by that mincing little whit who operated it as his own personal fiefdom for 48 years.

The Federal Bureau of Investigating threats to the ruling elite, i.e., the Party of FDR...

It's time for some new coin designs. The dime dates to 1946 (FDR), the quarter dates to 1932 (George I), the nickel to 1938 (TJ), and the cent to 1909 ("Honest" Abe). Maybe when Dixiecrat punkass Clinton dies . . . .

That's a whole thread on it's own. As whacked out as J Edgar was, he did operate independently of the political class. For example he was against the internment of the Japanese-Americans. But the way it began is still how it is today, just wholly politically infected.

He and Himmler had a lot in common. If Hoover had had a Heydrich, all would have been worse.

So what's changed? We had a brief hiatus after J Edgar assumed room temperature but it's back worse than ever now.
