It's official. The last country (which can remain nameless) that had this M1, no wonder they sold it surplus. Those motherfuckers couldn't clean their way out of a shithouse fire. More nasty shit in the holes and crevices than a little bit.

BS, no text, history, or tradition going back to 1791, to back that up. *(Bruen)
There is that. Also if you read the court proceeding the ATF had NO objective definition, it was all subjective and they waffled all over the place. In other words they came across as fools.

I think that's in their bylaws.

They sure can't serve a warrant.

Democrats had control of both houses from 2018 to 2020 and could have passed a bill then, and Trump would have signed it into law. Why didn't they? I have my theories but it IS the democrats that have to answer for lack of action.
I already said that Congress should've passed a law back then.

I don't give a fuck about your theories

I'll be damned, it looks like Parkerizing at home isn't all that big a deal. I have several potential victims for experimentation, and one kind of ratty looking rifle which could stand a redo.

Respirator with ample ventilation strongly recommended.

It also looks like (maybe) a sandblasting booth might be in my not very distant future. This will be Out West stuff, things to set up and do in the shop.

I found a M1 book on my bookshelf that I'm packing up. It's about basics for accurizing. There aren't many pictures or drawings, and the descriptions are a bit vague, but as I'm reading other stuff, it makes at least basic sense. The whole thing seems to be about learning the idiosyncrasies of the machine and then taking out any wiggle-waggle. It's very similar to learning how to hot rod a flathead.

It's all about the barrel and the bolt. After that it's finding what load it likes to digest and you're somewhat limited there.

And the gas block. And the op rod reciprocating bits. It's really fiddly.

IIRC, I think they'll eat 168s happily enough, although I vaguely remember seeing something about 173s a couple of years (decades) ago.

Damned gun is still on the truck in Ohio . . . .

Yeah, everything makes a difference, just some more than others.

There's an entire range of bullet weights that work well with the Garand that run from 168 to 178. There are some in the 155 class but I know of no one that has had any success with them.

I just took a gander at my old Sierra manual There do seem to be a couple of choices, and I do seem to need a more modern manual. And I think that there's a M1 bulletin board out there somewhere, too. No sense in reinventing any wheels that don't need it.

I think that I'll investigate disassembling the bolt today.

Congressional Democrats got their wish without having to dirty their hands.
