Well,as with most folks here in the States,I have a love/hate relationship with Wallyworld. The few things I do buy there are cheaper than anywhere else, but I feel bad about the way they bugger their employees("associates",what a laugh!) and the way they pander to the lowest common denominator in our society. So,came up with a simple way to salve my conscience.

pennies,nickles,and dimes

I'll go to Wallyworld about twice a month to by bulk catfood(I do TNR on a couple of feral colonies)tea, raw sugar, maybe some pesto.I stroll up to one of the auto-checkout stations and scan my purchases, being sure to get it right. After totaling out,I hit "pay with cash";and lift up the gallon bucket of pennies, nickles and dimes.Feeding them one at a time into the slot ties up at least one of those damned things(each one could be a human with a job),and it has lead to some interesting discussions on workplace politics and the role of the world's largest employer in reducing it's employees to the status of a disposable resource.Plus it PO's the management!

Don't ever rule out suicide as an option.

Please.

That will show them....

$450 billion in annual sales and a workforce of 2.2 million.

No doubt the board of directors is having a special meeting about your few hundred pennies.

Why do you hate America?

Yeap, you're right! They don't really care about the pennies, but the roughly $15 a minute that the auto check generates when you are a good DoBee vs. the roughly $1.03 per minute(timed myself) my sale generates warms the cockles of my terrible old heart.

Why do you hate America?

Military service to this country since we came over in the 1870's
Tax paying voters since we could vote
Working in the jobs that most folks are afraid to do/lack the drive to do for most of us
stand up and make ourselves known and our views when we see something we know isn't right

Dang, son, you got me!I must be one of them thar commieredtalibans we hear so much 'bout back up in the hills!

So, where do you get the dimes, nickels and pennies? Saving up a bucket out of pocket-change could take months. Do you go to the bank first to change your bills for coins, or what?

In the UK, a retailer, or anyone else owed a debt, has the right to refuse to accept shrapnel above a certain amount. I'd have to Google the exact limits per coin, but I remember it being surprisingly low.

I really don't know!I start out the week with a buck or two in change,by the next Monday there's $20+ in "scrap metal" scattered thru my coat, jeans, truck ashtray,etc..started dumping into a bucket about two years ago,and almost took it to a Coinstar when the idea struck me.

In America, retailers have the right to refuse any form of payment, even cash or coins. Some think that refusing cash is illegal because our currency says "legal tender for all debts, public and private", but they're wrong.

Ah,but here in the US it's still required to take the king's shilling!

Well, you could run a nice lawsuit on the first one to try that in the US,Blob! And the cost in the end, combined with the bad publicity would be worth it to an ancient savage such as myself!

And how much is YOUR time worth?

Oh. Will there be another brother of yours posting? Is this like a duo profile?

Brother?
Well.these days I make about $35 an hour as a toolmaker.Don't want to make more than $400-$600 a week, would rather have the time to plot the downfall of Western Civilization(great quote from Gandhi"Western Civilization? What a marvelous idea!").
The other poster you mat be thinking about is Scarlett_69,my wife.Only one 'puter,so we take turns.
By the way,I'm 54.And vastly amused at the things done on the 'net these days! Most of you folks think you are actually doing something!

I swear it said DemianBROS. Damn! My eyes are going! Oh no, I don't believe I'm doing anything. Well, I did just look up a sugar cookie recipe because I'm going to make Christmas cookies.

I don't know about bad publicity, but the fact is that Wal-Mart has the right to refuse any form of payment. Have you seen those signs that say "no $100 bills"? That's an example of that.
