War Like In 1964

After Goldwater lost the 1964 election the GOP went to war, to excommunicate the Rockefeller RINOs from the party. All of them were cleansed away, to make room for Nixon, and Reagan.

We now have an opportunity, till 2016, to cut throats and toss bodies overboard.

Heh.

Let the streets fill with blood, and the heads be used as footballs!

Just let me grab my camera first. I don't want to miss this.

Barry Goldwater was a good man, and our country could have used him in '64. I'd bet a double sawbuck that Vietnam would still be a relatively obscure east Asian nation, had he been elected instead of Johnson.

Nixon and Reagan were both more left wing than Obama.

I dunno. He was pretty hawkish.

In 1964, he fought and won a bitterly contested, multi-candidate race for the Republican Party's presidential nomination. His main rival was New York Governor Nelson Rockefeller, whom he defeated by a narrow margin in the bitterly fought California primary. His nomination was opposed by liberal Republicans, who thought Goldwater's demand for rollback, defeat of the Soviet Union, would foment a nuclear war. Goldwater lost to President Lyndon Johnson by a massive landslide, pulling down the GOP, which lost many seats in both houses of Congress. Goldwater carried only his home state and five Deep South states.

He was miles away from the commie-bashing red scarers in the party at the time. He was far from a McCarthyite.

Goldwater was sane, compared to some in the party then. Which is kind of scary!

LBJ was just realizing in '66 that his Viet Nam adventure was only intrenching the Mil-Indy Complex and there was no chance that another 20 years of killing slopes would lead to victory.

The war, would have been a lot shorter, if Politicians stayed out of it.

You don't need to do any of this Jim.

Obama will be an even worse failure with his "re-do."

After the next four years, the Republicans can nominate a ticket of Charles Manson and Jerry Sandusky (if both are still on this side of the grass) and win.

Democrats are people, too, and want the same things all people want. When they get short-changed by Obama theyll be ready for change.

A saying common during the Johnson administration:

It sure is a good thing we didn't elect Barry Goldwater. We'd be bombing North Vietnam if we had.

I don't get that.

Barry Goldwater campaigned as a "warhawk," Johnson campaigned as a "Dove." BG promised to bomb north vietnam back to the stone age, and LBJ promised to limit direct US involvement (maintain training/adviser status only.)

Goldwater was defeated in large part because of his promise to bomb north vietnam; the history books can give you the exact date LBJ began bombing north vietnam.

It's times like this when I wish I had a working Wayback Machine, just to see how things would have turned out.

too bad kennedy was killed with that "magic" bullet, you know, the one bullet that did so much damage and never had any damage done to it.
he was ready to pull all advisors out of vietnam and start scaling down the cold war.

You need to find Sherman. He was the real brain behind the operation, not Peabody.

Starting with White Men, Evangelicals and Tea Partiers.

These people want to be interviewed by Chris Matthews...

They never, ever learn. No Amnesty, contraception, abortion, or largess is going to eliminate the need for the Democrat Party and its press to have enemies who want to take away your presents from Santa365.

:( The Democrats depend on the 47% and the 47% are very easy to convince that their status is not due to their brilliance and work ethic but by the machinations of the RW Muggles who hate them.

Republicans, Christians and LIbertarians are people who must be killed and eliminated because you cannot talk to them or apply meaningful sanction. They should be more like Iran and Russia.

JAMES, the RINOs are in charge. Here is what they will try to get a makeover on. US 2

For the past several months, in my capacity in the Republican Party, I have been speaking at middle schools and high schools around Los Angeles. It has been very enlightening.

I love engaging with children. Most of them are very bright and ask brilliant questions. The questions give me insights into what they are most concerned about. It also makes clear what they are taught -- by either their parents or their teachers, or both.

To summarize -- children, for the most part, believe the following:

a) Republicans care about only the rich -- the top 1% -- and don't care about anyone else.

b) Republicans hate people of color and especially Latinos.

c) Republicans hate gays.

d) Republicans are racist.

e) It is the government that provides jobs. (I have asked that question many times in classrooms or assemblies. "Who is it that creates jobs in America?" The answer is invariably, without hesitation, "the government.")

f) Corporations are bad, and profits are very bad. Business shouldn't make profits; they should give any excess money they make to their employees.

g) Taxes are good; they provide the money for the government to take care of people.

h) Government should expand and take care of everyone in the country.

i) America, rather than being a force for good in the world, has been a force for evil.

j) Government has an unlimited source of funds. (When I ask, "Where is the government going to get the money to do all these things you want it to do?," the answer is "taxes.")
